Bamboozled

My neighbour called me the other day. "Let's go out to Bamboozle - I need to pick up a gift for my daughter."

I'd never heard of the place, but it sounded interesting so I reluctantly gleefully abandoned my laundry and vacuuming, put on my lipstick glad rags and headed out the door.

Down a gravel road in an idyllic country setting is an enchanting store. Actually two stores - Bamboozle, and The House of Leaves. Both are family run, and they bring in wares to utterly delight the feminine heart. Unique jewelry and clothing, scarves and gloves a-plenty, displayed with panache.

Stepping into the House of Leaves was like stepping into a shop in Paris. Glass jars of tea stood on a long table. The shopkeeper offered us each a small cupful. I chose Chocolate Orange Velvet, and oooh la la - it went down so smoothly.

From the very moment we stepped onto the property delights met our eyes. Lanterns hanging from trees. Fat bows around iron crows. Artful displays everywhere. Lots of ideas for decorating. Only open from May through December, the shop does a roaring business. My only regret is that I didn't know it was here before this. But I'll be back. Oh yes, I will.

Did I purchase anything? Yes, I did. And that's all I'm telling.

  2. Isn't it so delightful to find a spot like that . . . that lifts your spirits and inspires you just by being there, whether you purchase something or not. That has been one of my traditional therapies for times when I am feeling really blue . . . hop in the car and go find beauty to fill my senses. Hope you can share what your purchase was at a later date!
