Living as Light

"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned."
(Isaiah 9:2)

"Love is a weapon of light, and it has the power to eradicate all forms of darkness."
(Yehuda Berg)

"Light shines in the darkness..."
(John 1:5)

"You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world."
(Matt 5:14 the Message)

I've been on a couple of cave tours. One essential piece of equipment is a headlamp. The guide had us stand still, and then we all turned out our lights. My eyes strained, searching for some pinpoint of light, however small. None appeared. Nothing was visible. What relief when we turned our lights on again. One small light illumines a great area.

How can you, how can I bring a speck of light into our dark world? A smile for someone who has none, a hug for someone in sorrow, a prayer for comfort, a bill dropped into the Salvation Army bucket, patience with a child, sharing what we have.

As the days move towards the celebration of the coming of the Light of the World, I want to not only receive light, but be light.

Vee's Note Card party is on today. Click on the link to see what creative bloggers have come up with this month.

  3. Amen...what dear truths you share. I, too, have been in the cave when all the lights were put out just for those few seconds. It was NOT a good feeling. These images so perfectly illustrate your points and I see that you enjoy the "blue hour" as well.

  12. Lovely words and photos. Your sentiment reminds me of the little song we used to sing at Sunday School -
    Jesus bids us shine
    With a pure, clear light,
    Like a little candle
    Burning in the night.
    In this world of darkness
    So let us shine
    You in your small corner,
    And me in mine.

If we all shone a little it would soon add up to a really bright light wouldn't it?

  26. Beautifully said Lorrie... and such a perfect metaphor. Like you, I've experienced cave tours and that depth of darkness of which you write is spot on; the experience also left me with a similar appreciation for the power of one small light to penetrate the darkness (reminding me of that verse, 'darkness cannot exist in the presence of light'). It seems I am always striving to receive light. What a noble thing to aspire to BE (true) light... to contribute to it. This reminds me that, even in the tiniest way, we may be helping more than we could ever imagine. Thank you for the gentle nudge. Sending love and good thoughts to you and yours (with a lump in my throat as I write).
    Love,
    Tracey
