Now Come the Hydrangeas

The first few hydrangeas are in bloom on the bush beside the front entrance. At first creamy green, then palest blue, and finally a deep clear-day-sky-blue that stays for most of the summer. It's hard to choose a favorite flower - I think they are all my favorites - but hydrangeas give me great delight.

They provide constant color in my garden for several months, require almost no care at all, make great arrangements in the house, and in autumn, darken to rich shades perfect for drying. What's not to like?

  5. These are my favorite flowers and they are so pretty in a vase or even dried. I miss having them in my flower bed! It really makes you think of summer! Enjoy!

  6. I've heard you can keep them fresh for a very long time if you trim the stems and put the upside down under hot water to let it soak into the stems. I've tried it and so far working.

  10. So glad that the three hydrangeas I planted last year came back! I love them as well, but looks like it will be awhile before seeing any blooms here. Do you cut yours right back in the fall or next spring, or do they come back on the old wood ? Pretty pictures Lorrie!

  13. Beautiful - we had some lovely deep blue ones when we lived in France and brought a couple back to the UK with us as they were such a fabulous colour but they resolutely bloom pink here no matter what we do!

  19. Yours are lovely! I noticed mine today as I came home from work. We have a climbing hydrangea in a beautiful cream that climbs up the side of our porch. Such delicate but robust flowers. Definitely a favourite. xx

  23. Beautiful!!!! I had to leave my hydrangeas at the house I just sold. And this house doesn't have enough shade for them. But, I will fix that with planting some trees!!!!! Enjoy your beauties!
