Summerizing

Summers are short here on the west coast of Canada and we make the most of them. Today (Friday) Tim took a day off. He has a few yard projects he's working on, but this morning we power washed the deck and driveway. He didn't think I'd be able to hold the washer nozzle for long and he was right. But I had a few short stints at it and enjoyed watching the powerful stream of water blast the grime from the cement. Power washing sends up a lot of fine debris and I washed table chairs, plant pots, deck railing and more.

Then we put down the outdoor rugs - so nice on our feet compared to the cement - I love going barefoot. We barbecued hamburgers and ate outside, soaking in the early evening sun. If you look closely, you'll see that dinner was nothing fancy - I even put the condiments on the table in their "straight-from-the-fridge" bottles.

Summer temperatures here are pleasant, rarely too hot, with no humidity and no mosquitoes. A light jacket is usually welcome in the evening. We took a few minutes during the afternoon to have a cold drink and a snack, seated here. Ah summer - so beautiful - and lots of work. Tomorrow, I think, we'll be mowing the lawn.

  1. Your summers sound perfect! I'd move there in a minute if it weren't for my entire family being here on the East Coast. Bummer.

Straight-from-the-fridge sounds just right for a backyard cookout. In fact the whole thing sounds just right. Happy summer!

  2. OH the summers here are indeed delightful - we sat on the deck tonight and ate cherries until our fingers got cold - then came in and got quilts for our laps (and put our fingers under the quilts too :-). Delightful indeed - and this weekend is supposed to be a bit warmer - hurray for summer!

  3. That's my kind of back deck dining too. Check out my post today. :) Your patio and yard look so nice and you have nice weather and no mosquitos to enjoy it! I love your adirondack chairs. Enjoy your day of mowing etc. Blessings.

  4. Oh that's easy living at its very best. I love watching grime slide off, too, and must consider renting a power washer. We seem to need one with all the mold from days and days, weeks and weeks, years and years of rain. I may be exaggerating a little. Not much, though. Have a wonderful weekend and don't spend it all working.

  6. Good Morning, Lorrie

Don't you love having an outdoor space to enjoy! I was enjoying a Soduko puzzle and morning coffee in my garden this morning. It was amazing to not how the first poppy had started to open and emerged completely while I sipped.

    Have a lovely day!

  8. It all does look sparkly clean! We are buried in elm seeds right now..they are blowing around like a winter storm. When that is done we will have lots of cleaning to do again.

  9. You made the most of his day off for sure. We have yet to pressure wash around here. Some slippery stairs are calling for it!
Have a nice weekend enjoying the fruit of your labor!

  10. I think that first hamburger of the season always tastes the best and after all your hard work, who wants to be bothered with making the condiments look fancy.
Your Adirondack chairs look so welcoming.
    Enjoy your weekend.

  11. I love the Adirondack chairs . . . look so welcoming. Even the length of the grass looks inviting to bare feet.

  12. It looks great and I'm a bit envious of no humidity or mosquitoes. Yesterday our temps were lower and no humidity--the gift of a day! We were able to open the windows and enjoy the breezes -- a rare treat here! You and Pamela had similar dinners last night! Happy Father's Day to your hubby!

  13. Casual dining for summer is what it's all about - mustard and relish jars go on the table here too. I think one of the white muskoka chairs is calling me name.

  14. I am not a great summer lover, too much humidity and flies! So your summers sound perfect for someone like me. Hmmm, maybe I need to move over there! Have a great week. Chel x

  15. A lovely spot to sit...and eat! We grab every chance we can to eat on the back patio...or the front porch. I love summer. And yes...it is lots of work!

  16. Hi Lorrie,

I know exactly what you mean regarding the power washing! Three weeks ago, my husband and I were on a mission to extinguish every bit of dirt, grime and mossy build up on our exterior ceramic and stone tiled balconies, veranda, patio and front walkway!! Mission accomplished. It felt SO good to blast those tough stains away. The stone wall surrounding our property is next - can't wait!

Love your Adirondack, (or as we say in Ontario, Muskoka chairs), nestled in your lush lawn, in what looks like late afternoon sun. Very pretty!

  17. I agree that your summers are positively delightful! And power washing is such fun. My husband usually doesn't like to share the sprayer with me. He wants to do it all himself!
