Color in my World

Although I'm not a lover of yellow and orange, autumn brings out a latent admiration for these shades that glow as the earth tilts away from the light. While out walking, I find myself bending down to pick up a perfect leaf, a small cone, or a twig whose form has caught my eye. Tossing them onto the silver tray that holds silk, paper, and real pumpkins creates an arrangement that pleases me.

Teaching calls have been a little scanty lately. Instead, I spend afternoons stitching, while sitting on the couch in a puddle of sunshine. I hope to add these needle books to my Etsy shop soon.

As my garden winds down, it becomes more difficult to find things to make a bouquet. Here, a couple of dahlias and a few lavender sprigs that bloomed unexpectedly for a third time are filled out with lemon balm and variegated sage. Beyond the window, the yard echos autumn shades.

What's coloring your world today?

  5. Cute book-page pumpkin. Did you make it? And do you use the machine to stitch your sweet books or are they all by hand?

  8. Lovely little nature table display you have there. Your needlecases are truly pretty (I notice you are still using up bits of that lace - let me know if you need any more as I still have some of it) and your dahlia arrangement is worth all the clever floral arrangements using masses of shop bought flowers - beautiful.

  9. Did you make that wonderful paper pumpkin? I love it! Any chance of a tutorial (I'm thinking it could also work as a Christmas tree, right?

  10. Lorrie, our day is without much colour here. It rains and rains. But I do have a very pretty cyclamen flowering in a tub outside the front door, which gives me a lot of pleasure.
    Your needlecases are so pretty.

  12. The silver tray looks wonderful. We, the grands and I, painted leaves with wax today. You're doing very well with autumn colors when it's the colors of the sea and sky you prefer.

Charming needlebooks...always good to keep hands busy.

It has become quite chilly and we're told it could snow tonight. I was surprised to find a lily blooming and two roses and a little purple bell like flower. Most of the leaves in my corner are off the trees, but just downtown, a third of a mile away, the leaves are still vivid and hanging in.

  14. We have some roses, lavender and a few other flowers left. The stars of the garden right now, of course, are the beautiful autumn leaves and ripe fruit :) Love your silver tray arrangement!

I love using single leaves in bud vases this time of year, and even leaf bouquets.
