A Gift of Snow

It's been a busy week around here. Two days of teaching (including demonstrating how to bake gingerbread cookies - fun) and one day of frantic running around, one day of ferry and car travel (including a zip across the border to pick up a parcel) and then a late afternoon arrival at my parents' home in Chilliwack.

And then! To wake up to SNOW! Tim and I bundled up this morning and went out to revel in the lovely white fluffiness of it all. Above is the scene over the Vedder River valley.

Berries under snow.

As we walked, I thought about all the years in Ecuador when I longed for snow at Christmas time. I missed it so much. Our move back to Canada took us to a beautiful place where snow rarely falls, so I still miss it. When it does snow, it's a gift that I cherish. I'm glad to be on the mainland today because the overnight snow on the Island has already turned to rain.

Tim snapped this photo of me looking happy in the snow.

I showed a glimpse of this project a week or more ago. I did manage to finish it before we left. The pillow cover is from a pattern by Katherine of Sew Me Something Good. It's available on Craftsy, for free. I adapted it slightly, and I might make it again.

So that's what's happening around here. Tonight we'll be enjoying a turkey dinner with my parents and siblings, then back home through the Valley and over the water tomorrow. How are things going for you?

What a spectacular surprise for ME, too! SNOW!! It is breathtakingly beautiful where you are, such calmness and serenity in snow, don't you think?

  2. What a pretty cushion/pillow!
I'm crawling back to life after a very heavy cold, feeling much better and getting on with the last bits and pieces now. Just making some Shrewsbury cookies to pop into a pretty jar for my neighbour.

  7. The snow is very pretty - we had a lot up here in the hills and it was a challenge getting to work this morning, as the road doesn't get ploughed. Safely back home now though, and able to appreciate the white fluff on the cedar branches.

  9. I am hopelessly behind on blog reading. Have just spent a few moments catching up here. I truly appreciate that post on Butchart at Christmas. A place that will always hold a special place in my heart.
You truly do look happy to be reveling in the lovely white fluffiness. Snow is very rare here too. When it happens we almost always grab the camera and go for a walk.
Your pillow is so, so, so cute!! Love it. It just exudes JOY and cheerfulness.
Ah, turkey dinner with your parents and siblings... lovely. Enjoy every precious moment.

  10. We are enjoying what is left of our snow - but it is slowly turning to rain. Schools were canceled so the kids and teachers got one extra day of winter break - and a chance to play all day in the snow. By morning it will be in the low 40s and snow will be a memory.

We are getting ready for the big family dinner on christmas day - such planning and cooking and wrapping gifts and surprises - I love it all.

The pillow is wonderful - perfect for this time of the year - and yes, you do look so cute and happy in the snow.

  11. Sounds and looks beautiful! Great picture of you!! This city comes to a complete halt when it snows here! Seldom happens. We went to see American Hustle this afternoon. I was disappointed. Great acting, but I wasn't too crazy about the story. About to go to dinner with friends. Stormy tomorrow! Enjoy!

  13. You look beautiful in the snow! Our snow is leaving us due to a crazy weather pattern that is going to give us nearly 70 degree weather on Sunday! Boo!

Glad you got to enjoy the snowfall - there is something special about it at Christmas time.

I finished my Christmas shopping today, so I am enjoying being done! So excited for Christmas Day!

Thankful for God's plan of redemption.

  16. You manage to make the snow look appealing -- and you look gorgeous in it! Almost makes me feel ashamed of my grumbling about the white stuff this morning. Almost. . . .For your sake, I hope you get a few more days of it up the valley. Enjoy!

  24. Well, if it's snow that you would like, I can send lots more your way...remember this in March, when I am whining about all the white stuff.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas.

  25. I think snow would be nice to visit but I could never live in it. My son is happy to be here right now thawing out from all the snow they have where he is in Colorado. They won't thaw out until at least April. The Joy pillow is lovely. Wishing you and yours a very happy holiday. Tammy

  27. I envy you! Envy your snow! Would love to have a white Christmas like it was in the "old days". There is something magic with the snow, isn't it. Wonderful images!
Love all your December posts! Of course also the others during the year, being just not very good in commenting, mildly spoken. Will try to get better next year, hopefully.

  28. What a GREAT photo of you, Lorrie! I'm glad you made it your profile picture....very pretty!
Anytime you want to romp in the snow, we've got plenty here in Ohio. It was coming down softly when I woke up & I'd better get out there & sweep the front sidewalk before the kidlets & co. start arriving.

Loved seeing your cute "JOY" pillow. Following the link to capture the freebie just as soon as I hit "publish".
Loved your reference to "turn toward the light - figuratively, spiritually, and spatially" Beautifully said!

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
