An Urban Walk over the Gorge Waterway

Our city has many trails that meander through urban neighborhoods and along the water, skirting industrial areas and opening into small parks. Bikers, runners and walkers use these trails for pleasure and for commuting. This trail is one that my husband used to ride on his bike when he worked downtown. The waterway pictured above is the Gorge - part of an inlet that winds into the land, crossed now by way of an old railway trestle.

Red-flowering currant bushes are in bloom, bright pink to attract hummingbirds. We didn't see any of the small birds today, though.

On our return I notice a lamppost, graceful and curving. I am reminded of Narnia.

  3. Beautiful spring views. It is always great when a city makes use of old transportation routes for public walking paths.

  5. What a lovely place to live. It seems so green and lush. And I love to be near water. I spent 9 years inland, and it was about 8 years and 11 months too long. I love the idea of commuting to work by bicycle, but I haven't done it since I was in high school and working in a fabric store (can you believe it?), and it was 3 miles each way, but seemed much longer.
    Great pics, as always.

  6. Oh, I miss that walk! I used to work over near the scrap metal yard, with a view of the Gorge near the trestle. I did that walk every lunch hour.

And the Ribes...sigh...I should see if they grow up here, I think they are a native.

  25. Flowering red currant bushes! So beautiful and not seen around here - are they the edible red currants? I loved them when we grew them along with delicious black currants in England - my mother made delicious jam. Now I have to buy jars of imported - it's still pretty good though.

Lovely places to walk up your way - makes me want to get outside when the rain stops.
    Happy day Lorrie.

  26. Oh yes that lampost reminded me of Narnia too! Did you see any cupboard doors?
It's lovely to have walk trails in an urban environment that get you away form the hustle and bustle and grit and grime of the city.
Have a wonderful week and thanks for stopping by my blog the other day.
