Strawberries Make Life Sweeter

It seems like there's a lot of frustration with Blogger and Google these days from the comments received on my last post. It seems that some internet places won't play nicely with others (aol and yahoo), and Google Plus is just plain confusing. Comments lost, comments disabled, comments hard to post, comments impossible. Thanks for all your input. It's nice to know I'm not alone in the blogging maze.

I'm so grateful for the free blogging platform that Google provides with Blogger, but I'm not interested in having my entire life connected to my Google plus profile, which seems to be their goal. An ad for Google plus says "connect with friends and family, explore your interests and see how all of Google gets better." Um. I don't think it's working. Exclusivity is not connection. But that's another discussion. Let's move on to something sweeter!

It's summer! Sort of. Cooler temperatures around here lately, but still very pleasant with a sweater. Strawberry season arrived a couple of weeks earlier than normal due to a warm May and early June.

One little miss and I headed out to the strawberry patch yesterday. She's so good at understanding rules. When I gave her her hat to put on she said, "oh yes, summer rules." Another rule was not eating the berries until we'd paid for them. She followed that one without any problem. She's also very good at choosing which berries to pick and which to leave to "ripen just a little bit longer, Nana."

I filled my bigger bucket and she filled her smaller one, mostly by taking berries from Nana's bucket. Sweet times in the berry patch.

We ate lots of them freshly rinsed, juicy and sweet. After she went home, I made a Strawberry Tart for Grandpa who had meetings scheduled until 8 pm and was happy to sit down and have a big piece when he got home.

What's fresh at your place?

  1. Love the photo of little miss at the strawberry patch! I love that they are called strawberry patches, too. Now I want a strawberry pie...

  4. Mercy, Lorrie, that is one amazingly beautiful strawberry tart! It makes me want to run to the strawberry patch and surprise my hardworking carpenter who has left to purchase the "right" screws. What a little sweetheart who is learning so much. I like that one about "summer rules" and may have to borrow it. Her parents are doing a great job with her...all except for that theft habit she has going. Ha!

  5. Oh, how sweet to have a little Miss along while berry-picking! We have to wait a few more weeks for some local berries, I think.

  8. What could be sweeter than picking strawberries with your granddaughter? We are enjoying everbearing raspberries fresh from the garden every day. Fresh fruit is a special delight of the season.

  9. Smart (and very cute) little granddaughter you have there! Your tart looks absolutely scrumptious -- maybe I will talk our son into making us one:)
Currently we have yellow raspberries, herbs, romaine lettuce, a few early blueberries, cherries and strawberries ready to go. Mmm, late spring/early summer.
    Blessings,
    Aimee

  15. Your granddaughter is sweet learning to pick berries. It's fun watching them eat some and get the juice all over, brings back memories for me.
I don't care for Google + either, signed up but rarely use it. The family is on FB so that's where I look to participate and read activity.

  17. What a sweet little helper you have! The rhubarb is just about done here and the strawberries not yet ripe so we are in between at the moment. The lettuce is leaping out of the ground so it won't be long before some fresh greens will be ready for our salads.

  19. Google Plus, at first when they were sending emails about it I started to sign up, then realized they wanted to link to everything I stopped. Now it is frustrating because I didn't finish the process, but when I first log into my computer they try to get me to link in with them and I have to keep saying I quit. Now I must figure out how to back out of that.

On the other hand your strawberry pie and fresh strawberries - oh delicious!

  20. Yes, it gets frustrating sometimes with the blogging bumps in the road. I don't understand Google+ at all, so I have resisted converting over to it. It seems like it is Google's answer to Facebook, which is one social media segment that I have also avoided. Even though I love Bloglovin' most of the time, it can give me fits about not allowing me to post comments. It did that on your blog today. I had to repeatedly attempt to get out of the format to finally get the comment page.

I had a good laugh about the little miss filling up her strawberry bucket from yours and shared it with Jim. Fun times!

  21. Blogger fine but their owners Google another matter. Forced me to change E-addresses in order to access my own blog or comment on others and I agree the pestering to use Google + is annoying. If I wanted to join I would.
