Finding Light Where We Can

High noon. Light casts distinct shadows against the wall. Unfortunately, the light is artificial as our days are grey and drizzly. There's a quiet beauty to the mist that I haven't been able to capture with my camera quite yet.

Drizzly days are good for curling up with a new book. It's been awhile since I've visited Mitford and I have to confess that it's taken me awhile to really get into the story. I'm there now, looking forward to discovering how the saga unfolds.

Last night we went to watch The Imitation Game. Thought-provoking in several regards. Well done. Thoroughly enjoyable. Have you seen it?

  2. It has been uncharacteristically foggy and gloomy lately here, too, Lorrie! It is a rare day that is not sunny in Colorado. On such a day I find myself ina cleaning mood for some reason. I've tackled quite a few cleaning jobs that I've put off on nicer days. I am also reading more this winter--I found my local library sells books and I've bought quite a few paperbacks that I'd like to finish soon and donate back. I prefer not having a library dealdine to return them ;)

  3. We haven't seen the sun for a few days but it's welcome to come and make shadows on my walls. :-)
Hubby wants to see the Imitation Game on Tuesday so I'm glad you mentioned you liked it.
I watched the trailer for Still Alice that is being released later this month and tears started since I remember the book well. I'll go with some girlfriends and take a big box of tissues.

  4. I also saw The Imitation Game last night. It was an excellent movie, and I really left the movie theater with some heavy thoughts. I'm glad you enjoyed it too.

  5. Thank you for saying so...that it took awhile to get into the story. I set mine back down as it was not holding my attention. I'll try again in a few days when my concentration is better. I have not seen that movie. I stay out of movie theaters in flu season. You're brave!

  6. Yes it took awhile to get back into Mitford but now I'm hooked on the book. We're also listening to the Ireland visit on tape which precedes this one--not too confusing though.

  7. It's taking me a while to get into this latest book, too. It is sitting on my nightstand with a book mark in about chapter 3 or so...

  8. Oh I need to visit Mitford again, for it has been ages for me and I did enjoy the two books that I read. Have a lovely week!

  9. I like Jan Karon but don't have this latest book yet. We have had much grey weather as well.

  10. I haven't seen the film you mentioned or read that author; I've made a note of her name. Bright spots don't always come from sunlight. A fine book and a good reading lamp make for a sunny spot in my day, no matter what is going on outside.

I look forward to you capturing the mist, Lorrie.

  12. Glad you went to see The Imitation Game. Sounds like most people come out of with the same opinion... a thought provoking movie on lots of different levels.

  13. It has been a long time since the last Mitford book, and like you I find I have to stop and recall what happened previously. But what a magic there is in Mitford!

  14. How have I missed the Mitford books? Sounds a lot like Debbie Macomber, maybe? I love her books. I just need more time for pleasure reading. Haven't seen the Imitation Game yet but I manged to see Boyhood and Big Eyes and loved them both. Boyhood was amazing.

  15. We were both on the same wavelength, Lorrie...trying to capture photos in dim light in & around a pretty candlestick! LOL
Thanks for showing the link to Karen's Sunlit Sunday. I may join her party, thanks to you!

  16. Yes, it was good to revisit Mitford but it did take a while to get back into it. I noticed in the Forward she mentioned that some readers had reread the entire series before getting into this new one. I might do that since I have kept them. Haven't seen The Imitation Game yet, but did see The Theory of Everything, Big Eyes, and Into the Woods - all good movies. Going to see Selma this week - I know it'll be hard to watch but feel like I should see it, having lived through that era - though not personally involved. I'm looking forward to the Paddinton movie. My kids loved the Paddinton Bear books!

  17. Haven't made it to any of the current popular movies - currently watching the series 'Damaged' starring Glen Close and Rose Byrd on Netflix (a lot of episodes in five series!), and it is awesome.

Photographing anything today around here will be in grey tones - rain is tippling down and the morning is so dark. Over the weekend the sun was brilliant despite the cold, such a different feel and it forced me out to walk and enjoy the woods and pond in the neighborhood. Once it dries up I'll be out there again!

    Have a wonderful week Lorrie.

  18. Pretty shadows. I think January and February are fabulous months for reading. I have not seen the Imitation Game but I'm fascinated by the story behind solving the German Code and how the Allies kept it a secret that they had so I imagine the movie must be worth seeing.

  23. I like the shadows from the light. This morning the moon cast shadows through our blinds that cast interesting light throughout the house. The moon was just at the right spot to get between the slats in the wee hours. Thanks for the book and movie suggestion. This week I'm on the hunt for a good read...and maybe we should go see a movie.

  25. I read all the Mitford series years ago, but haven't read this newest one yet. I'll have to look into it, Lorrie.

  26. I love misty images too - I would have to get up very early to catch them. Enjoy your new book. I am wishing you all the best for 2015.
