Glimpses of Colour

It's still dark when we eat breakfast on weekdays (7-7:30 am). This morning we slept in. While sitting eating my eggs, I looked out at the pots on the patio. Hey, what's that purple? Two little Siberian irises stand valiantly in the rain. Welcome, welcome!

Similarly, our walks are usually taken at night, after dinner, in the dark and we miss this carpet of naturalized croci and cyclamen with clumps of creamy snowdrops here and there. Today we went in the afternoon and enjoyed the hundreds of flowers. It's so pretty. And early. We've barely had winter this year.

Wandering further we were struck by the extensive moss creeping over the Garry Oaks. It's bright against the leafless browns of shrubs and trees.

Linking to Sunlit Sunday, hosted by Karen of My Little Home and Garden. There's little sunshine in this post, but all the rain is making for some welcome colour.

  1. I would say all of that colour brightens up a day, with or without a shining sun. The irises and carpet of blooms show a vastly different part of our country than my snow covered landscape, with more still coming down. I do like the snow, but I think I need to pick up a bouquet or some potted bulbs for a little dose of colour!

I hope you have a lovely week, Lorrie.

  3. The irises, croci and cyclamen look so wonderful!
Where I live it's snowing also this morning, and the newspapers say that during the winter months this year we have had about half of the "normal" amount of hours of sunshine. One can notice it.
Thank you for these primaveral images!

  7. That is an amazing moss covered tree. We also have barely had winter. The pansies are blooming all winter and the daffodils are almost up--probably another day.

  9. Wow! If I didn't know that these beautiful photos were of my native Canada, I would have never guessed, and in winter, to boot! I so enjoyed this burst of purples and blues, Lorrie, a sign of spring, for sure!

  10. It's always such a welcome sight to see these little pops of color in the winter landscape.
The Siberian iris would be an exciting discovery at the February breakfast table. It's a little early for us, but I am planning to sprinkle some fertilizer around the daffodils today.
That mossy tree is so cool!

  12. Oaks look very pretty swathed in green velvet.

We were watching the expanded weather report last night when we learned that a front directly from Siberia was going to nail us good later in the week. John asked, "Don't they mean Canada?" I looked very closely and, yes, it was flowing down from Canada, but was avoiding the Pacific Northwest...you lucky dogs!

  16. I think we are all longing for sunshine across Canada, but these gray days will make us appreciate it more, when spring arrives. Love your photos, especially the Iris with the raindrops.

  28. Surprise blooms are always welcome. We've had quite a bit of dust this week which makes everything appear dull and lifeless. Bleh! It's dark when we get up at 6:00 a.m.for school but the sun is up by 7:00 a.m. when we leave. I much prefer walking during daylight. But not when there's dust. Best wishes, Tammy

Love the iris and tree too. Yes, springtime is early, but
