Five on Friday

All the layers of ocean, land and sky fascinate me. Someone asked in a recent post if these colors are natural - yes, they are. So very beautiful. This is another view of Mount Baker from our island.

Thank you for all the sweet comments and thoughts and prayers regarding my last post. The bumps are smoothing.

In my garden the first tulips are blooming, rather short stemmed, but pretty nonetheless.

My maternal grandmother (biological) died before I was born. My mother tells me that these Bellis (bellis perennis) daisies were some of her favorites and I think of her when I see them in the spring.

A cormorant conversation last weekend. One looks like he/she is chewing the other out. Maybe the one with the head tucked is thinking, "oh no, here she/he goes again."

Spring break is here. Oh, frabjous delight! I celebrated by coming home, putting up my feet, and watching the final of the Great British Sewing Bee. The civility and friendship of the contestants is heartwarming and so unlike some of the contests seen here in North America.

Five on Friday. It's been a long while since I've done one of these posts. Weekend plans - there's a sewing show in town I'd like to visit tomorrow, shopping and cleaning to be done, and hopefully a little time in the garden. How about you?

  1. What I knew as English daisies I grew successfully in my garden only once - I think I just chanced to plant them at the right time one year when it wasn't too hot, or something. I wish I knew what the right "formula" had been, so I could be confident to try again. When they thrive they are SO heartening, and when they languish, just the opposite. I love looking at yours.

  5. I used to grow the pretty daisies in my tiny garden when I was a child. I love them.
The GBSB has been a delight to watch, with no posturing or over-competitiveness....unlike some of the so called 'celebrity'shows. So pleased that Matt won!

  6. Love your 5 on Friday pictures. I think I might join in I've seen some lovely things. Your view of the mountain is fantastic . I think your spring might be a little more advanced than mine is. My tulips are still in bud, if the warm spell of weather we had last week hadn't dipped I'm sure they would be in bloom. Oh well as the crocus which don't last for long die off, the tulips will take their place. Thank you for popping in to visit me. and leaving a kind comment. Don't feel down in the dumps, As the saying goes '' When one door closes another will open '' Enjoy your weekend .

  7. Dear Lorrie, I am pleased to find you feeling perkier ~ and you pictures are all most characterful.
Things have not been so great here, so we are taking it gently this week end: but I a
m looking forward to going through my seed tin and seeing what to grow after all (thought we'd be moving so didn't bother).
I am loving the birds visiting our garden now we have no big dog or cats to scare them away!
Will buy a bird feeder, I think.
    Have a relaxing time!

  8. Beautiful photos! -- Love those layers so much -- somehow, funnily, the first glimpse of that photo registered as textile art -- appliquéd layers. I think because the layers are so very strong and graphic. Glad to hear the sadness is lessening a bit. Take care.

  10. What a beautiful place you live in Lorrie! That first picture is stunning. I always think if I lived in such a gorgeous natural setting I'd have loftier and more beautiful thoughts. Not sure if that's true, but I like to think so. :)
    Have a lovely weekend!

  13. Enjoy the March Break, it starts next week for us. Perhaps the bumps will smooth out a bit for you now. I've been watching the Great British Baking Show and really enjoyed it, will have to check out the sewing one.

  14. Lorrie, I've not seen the Great British Sewing Bee, but I recently watched the Great British Baking Show and found, like you, that the contestants were all just lovely. The whole spirit of the show was nothing like the ones produced in the US.

  15. The colors of the sea, sky and land are the beauty I most enjoy beholding. They are what inspire in my artwork as well. Glad to hear that the bumps are smoothing. I am gardening all weekend in our upper 70 degree weather.

  16. The bellis daisies are sweet--I never knew their name before; nor did I know the word cormorant. Thankfully a dictionary is a click away. Always learning something from you!

  17. Hi Lorrie, I am just catching up with my blog reading and was sorry to hear that you have been feeling melancholy. Believe me, my sympathies are with you and I do hope you are back to normal soon. We love the Great British Sewing Bee in this house, and agree it is very gentle and supportive to the people in the show. Very inspirational. Have a good weekend and think positive thoughts my lovely xx

  18. Beautiful...your offering of pic's for Friday. Those daisies remind me of my maternal grandmother as well. I thought of her as I added a plant to my spring planter. Enjoy spring break!
