From my Garden

Spring blooms are so precious that I hate cutting them. But this afternoon I collected a few bits and pieces from the garden.

I have a long candle holder that holds 10 tea lights. A few years ago I had the idea to use the glass candle cups as miniature vases. I like the look of a long arrangement marching along the length of the dining room table.

A trio of small narcissi plus a handful of grape hyacinths combined with lemon grass and a few lamb's ears add a bit of garden freshness indoors.

The forsythia blooms will soon be dropping, so I cut a few to grace my kitchen windowsill. In the background, outdoors, is the forsythia bush.

  2. I love your candle-come-flower holder and the Spring flowers are beautiful.
It's so exciting watching Spring develop in the garden, it seems each day holds a new surprise!
I wish I could grow Forsythia but I don't think it's cold enough here.

  5. Hello, Lorrie!
Your spring bloom arrangement looks cheerful, elegant and festive. Beautiful flowers!
Yesterday evening I tried to write a comment on your previous post, and it disappeared every time. You have a wonderful view from your island!
    Happy Sunday!

  6. Lorrie, what an abundance of elegance in your spring garden! The centrepiece of petals is very pretty, and I can imagine waking up every morning to such cherry charm!

  8. When we look around the house there are many things that can be repurposed to hold flowers and you've come up with one that is fabulous. It certainly is a parade of colour with snippets of spring down your table.
I always admire a vase of cheery yellow forsythia branches, it's one we force indoors for colour here.

  9. What a lovely idea. It looks so pretty on your table. I like the forsythia as well. One of my favourite shrubs. I should buy a new one this year as we had to dig mine up many years ago. It's nice to see the spring flowers on this blizzardy day here. Have a blessed week. Pam

  10. Darling way to repurpose the tea candle holders! It looks spectacular! Wonder when I might see our forsythia. I did major pruning last year so this could be interesting.

  11. What a great idea! Repurpose. It looks great and I'm sure brings a smile to the face to see all those blooms. Spring is on the way. Your forsythia is lovely, too. Happy Sunday!

  12. I am spring green with envy!!! What a beautiful display...love the bokeh effect!!!

My dining room table has a dozen white roses with a single red rose in the center....brought home from the church after we buried my sweet Ernie yesterday. So sad.

  14. What a clever idea for a floral arrangement - and it is low enough that conversation won't be hindered by tall flowers. I must find me one of those candle holders - when yard sale season begins. The flowers are just beautiful and I love how you photographed the "double" forsythia.

  16. Love the idea of using your candle holder for the spring flowers, works so well. Your forsythia is much further along than mine...

  17. Love how you are using this for flowers Lorrie - and of course you could still place a couple of candles and mix in for dining at the table in the evening!

  18. You must be a bit ahead of us, as my Forsythia is only just coming into flower. It is one of the loveliest of Spring shrubs.
I love the look of your candleholders.

  20. Oh I LOVE this idea, Lorrie!!! The combination of spring flowers and colors is wonderful, and your photos captured them beautifully! There is something extra special about spring flowers, I think. I'm glad you found a good way to use some of yours. :)

    Have a lovely day.

  25. I love how you have used the long votive holder!! Great idea, and I think I may even have one of those in my "cupboard"!! Wishing you a happy day...a little cool and a few drops of rain here. I love springtime rain though, cleans everything off. BUT,,,I know there will be another snow storm before we can call it spring on the prairies!

  26. Pretty blooms. I also enjoy putting tiny arrangements down the center of the table, usually in baby food jars. And intermix with candles if it's evening. If you use a tall arrangement of flowers, or even candles, it's difficult to see your guests on the opposite side of the table!

  29. How absolutely delightful.
You have such brilliant decorating ideas that I am always astounded when I come here. You may feel flattered, I frequently copy your designs, although my efforts are nowhere near as accomplished as yours.

  30. Oh how lovely...what a great idea using the candle holder for little vases! The color combination is gorgeous...so springy!!

  31. I am in love with that...it's such a simple but beautiful idea. Van dusen Gardens in Vancouver used to do that, a "what's blooming in the garden today". Have to admit that I stole that idea for where I worked...loved taking a snip here, and a snip there...

So beautiful to see the spring bulbs coming up.

Hey Lorrie, I know we know each other already but I wanted to say anyways...I'm visiting from The Over 40 Blogging World.

  32. Ohhh Lorrie, that is a brilliant arrangement. It's so beautiful yet it doesn't require much. I am also very jealous that you already have something from your garden to cut.
