A Restful Weekend and Baked Eggs

It's been a quiet weekend. A few chores, a little sewing, a long walk in the rain with my husband (very Bronte-ish), some television watching, and very little computer time.

No photos, either, so I've recycled some from last fall. I played with still life arrangements for Donna's Personal Photo Challenge. This time I created a collage of a few of my favorites. (The link goes to her regular blog, as the photo challenge has been discontinued for now, after the death of her husband last December.)

We've been working, over the past few months, on renovating our upstairs bathrooms. They are to the point of choosing tile for the back splash. Do you have any idea how many choices there are for tile? I'm sure it numbers in the thousands of thousands. I sort of know what I want. Tim needed to see for himself. We decided on something, then I found a sample of the same tile with grout and he decided he didn't like it. So we started all over again. No decision yet.

A number of people commented on the breakfast I showed earlier in the week. The eggs are baked in ham cups - an easy way to prepare breakfast for a crowd (or one or two).

You can use a muffin tin, but I like using my ramekins. Lightly grease the ramekins, then place a slice of Black Forest ham inside. Crack open an egg into the ham. Spoon 1-2 teaspoons cream over top. Sprinkle with cheese, salt, pepper and herbs, as desired. Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 - 20 minutes, depending how well you like the eggs cooked.

  1. A walk in the rain never hurt anyone and I think it sounds quite romantic. And we have to face the fact that its inevitable in the next several months and I can't bear to be shut in.

Your weekend sounds like it was wonderful and that breakfast simply delicious! I'm definitely going to try the recipe---it would feed a few of us with maybe a biscuit or slice of toast. Thank you, Lorrie!

    Have a spectacular week! :)

  2. Your weekend sounds peaceful and I hope you can make the decision on the tile soon. We've been talking a lot lately how we love so many options for lots of things but always consider it a blessing when the options are narrowed down for you one way or another and you can decide and move on to the next thing.

  6. Choosing tile can be overwhelming, I know. I'm sure you will find one you both like. Your still life photos are lovely. Egg baked in the ramekin sounds wonderful although I couldn't eat the ham as I'm allergic. Sometimes I do eggs in muffin tins and freeze them for a quick breakfast or lunch on the run. Lots of veggies and cheese instead of meat although I do add the meat once in a while. So happy to have you join me today. Have a beautiful day, Lorrie.

    Autumn blessings,
    Sandi

  8. Your photos are wonderful Lorrie, but it's that egg baked in the ramekin that is calling to me right now! I have done that, but not in quite awhile. Thank you for the inspiration! Hope you have a lovely week!

  13. We need to re-do our kitchen sometime in the next year or so. Even though I'll be looking forward to a new kitchen, I'm not looking forward to all those decisions and choices!
Sounds like you had a lovely, peaceful weekend; my favorite kind. The eggs look easy ad delicious. I'll have to try those, esp over the holidays.

I think your weekend sounds great. I do hope you find a tile and grout you like soon, and I hope you show us some before and after photos. I love inspiration, as I am feeling like we need to do some updating around here!

  16. Your ham and egg breakfast with avocado sounds delightful! I must give it a try, as we have an overabundance of eggs with our free ranging hens :) Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend, and a walk in the rain sounds nice, as long as it is not pouring. A drippy rain is kind of nice :) Enjoyed your post!

  17. I think your weekend was perfect. And I'll try the ham and eggs as it will be one way to use the ramekins that I've never made creme brulee in!

  19. Thanks for the recipe.
So many choices in tile and other home decorator things these days. I have been intrigued by glass tiles, but no plans, I just like.

  20. It sounds like a very good weekend - the breakfast looks just as good a second time. We had the dilemma when we picked carpet - we wanted beige,ok, that's easy. There is greenish beige, yellowish beige, greyish beige and every sort of beige in between. We finally found a tannish beige - and the name - tan beige.

  21. I think you make a wonderful Bronte heroine ! You make rain sound romantic ... It hasn't worked for me yet in all these years ;)! Turning off the computer is a great idea every once in a while ... I do that sometimes too. Breakfast looks great!

  22. I like walking in the rain--and snow--it's snowing here tonight in fact.

You egg breakfast looks wonderful, Lorrie. I have been avoiding as many carbs as I can, and this looks like a clever way to prepare an egg that will be filling.

I remodeled a bathroom in Brooklyn, and it was amazing how many different tiles were available to chose from. I ended up going with soemthing very neutral as I knew I'd be selling our house soon.

  26. Such a lovely post, Lorrie! Your collage is full of light and happiness. (I love to see the sunlight and yet my favourite still life is the one in the bottom right corner.)
Your breakfast looks delicious... and elegant. Seeing slices of avocado makes me always happy - avocados are so tasty and I was working with them when I was young.

  27. Would love a restful weekend. Having an antique shop means my weekend is never restful but Mondays and Tuesday can be. Your eggs in cups looks delish!

  29. I'm working on still life photos for an on-line course and yours are a great example Lorrie. I saw the egg in the ramekin but didn't realize there was a frilly piece of ham around the outside. That would be a great brunch item to serve!

  30. Brontéish...lovely thought! Like a walk on the moors... You sure know how to set a mood.

  31. I love to walk in the rain. My hubby can't stand the wet stuff so lets me do this alone! At the moment I have been walking on the Fens which is very much like the moors, except the mud doesn't make it that romantic sounding! I do love how you do your eggs. I will have to do this. Take care my lovely xx

  32. I am late getting around. The ham and eggs looks so good--and easy. Your photos should be in a magazine they look so good and pretty, colorful and professional. I know what you mean about choosing tile. It is is a very hard decision and one tends to get overwhelmed. Right now we are trying to decide on kitchen flooring. We both want the perfect pieces, don't we? Good luck. And share photos of the new bathrooms. How exciting.

  33. Lovely photos as always -- my mom used to collect teacups and saucers, some from Canada if I remember correctly. My sibling and I each kept part of her collection. THANK you so much for including the recipe for your yummy looking breakfast! I prefer ramekins too:)
    Blessings,
    Aimee
