Waking Up

The calendar says late winter, but the sun beguiles and charms. I drop my bag of marking, pick up my camera and head outside. What is that I feel on my back?

Warmth. Faint, but definite. I close my eyes and turn my face upwards, bathing in warmth. I cannot help but smile.

Oh, look! The first forsythia bud is opening. Soon there will be a flurry of gold.

An unnamed and soon unloved weed displays a starry cloud that provides for it a short reprieve from yanking.

Fragrant rosemary opens purple to the light, awaiting the bees. Like a slow awaking from a heavy sleep, earth stretches and sighs, slumbers a bit, and stirs some more.

"Soon," she mumbles, "I'll be there soon."

  2. I see that we are of like minds...seeing signs of spring. Your photos are so pretty, these aren't flowers that I can grow which makes them even lovelier. Gardeners always seem to long for unobtainable plants..peonies, oh how I wish I could grow them. Here in my hot climate that just will never happen. LOL

Also here the calender says late winter, and we have about two feet of snow now and more coming. :)
Wishing you sunny and warm spring days!

  4. How we all love those first buds opening a sure sign Spring is on it's way. We still have persistent rain, the ground is so wet I can't plant my new roses. I'm longing to be able to sit outside to drink my morning coffee. This time last year we had been enjoying many days of warm sunshine. Enjoy your warm sun.

There are little bits around the garden which lead me to think that maybe Spring is nearly here.

  12. Beautifully shared, Lorrie. The earth's awakening. Always a welcome time of year, especially after the cold and dormancy of winter. Our first flowers are still a week or so away. My green thumbs are getting itchy.
