Tea Party Fun

"Come, let us have some tea and
continue to talk about happy things"
Chaim Potok

There was a very jolly tea party this week. Three little people and three grownup people sat around the table, sipped tea and munched on tea time treats.

There were egg salad sandwiches and cucumber sandwiches, neither of them a hit with the younger crowd. Crescent rolls with ham and cheese went down much better, along with the tomato/basil leaf/mozzarella picks.

Little Miss A: I don't like the green stuff.
Little Miss S: I do.
Little Miss A: Is that just because green is your favorite color?

The scones with whipped cream and cherry jam were a big hit all around.

There's a wonderful thrift store in Oak Bay Village and I poked around in it one day this week. I brought home two teacups and one mug. One little miss's favorite color is indeed green and I found the teacup above, in palest green with pink roses.

The second tea cup has a pale blue interior - another miss's favorite color. Both teacups are by Foley, made in England. No pattern names were given.

The girls were very careful with their teacups.

For the sole male at the table, this Bunnykins mug seemed appropriate. He did very well drinking his milk with a spot of tea from it.

It was a sunny time, indeed! I can foresee many more tea parties.

  1. What a sweet tea party - I though my grandsons were past tea party age - but one has asked for a tea party for easter - and the other agrees - and they are 11 and 14 - what treat for Grammy. The sweet teacups are perfect for the little misses - and of course the tea mug is wonderful for a happy little boy. What a lovely tea party you made - everything looks so delicious.

Beautiful tea party, and it brought back wonderful memories. I never attended one as lovely as yours, but I sat with my granddaughter and her American Girl dolls around many a tea table. :-)

  11. I love tea parties with little folk. Your grandkids are so cute ... love the shots of the tea drinking when their faces are almost hidden completely with the size of the tea cup. My own kids enjoyed tea parties at this age too, and I had some tiny little tea cups that they used with rabbits on them. My son used to ask for some "Rabbit Tea" which was so sweet. He's still a tea drinker and just walked past me with a large pottery mug full of tea :)
    Such a beautiful, sweet post~

  24. Looks like a perfect tea party. It seems that children love tea parties, and how sweet the Peter Rabbit mug for your little grandson. Part of the beauty of the whole thing was how much you cared in preparing for a special time.

  34. Oh Lorrie, I want to be at that tea party... Drinking tea and thinking happy thoughts and enjoying the innocence of childhood! And of course the wonderful high tea goodies would certainly add to my sense of well being! I have to add however that if I were actually lucky enough to be at that table ever, i would have to remind myself that it wouldn't be ladylike to fight that little guy for the bunny cup ... I love it the bestest of all ;)))

  35. Now that's a wonderful tea party Lorrie, one to be very proud of. Not only does it look very pretty it also looks scrumptious! And great company too :)

  36. Oh I just love, love your tea party. I can even imagine the shop where you bought the teacups. Also love Bunnykin cups and this is a sweet one. Yes, the others are sweet too, but Bunnykin is just appropriate for the season. Your food looks just delicious and I would love sitting at this table.

  37. What a delightful tea! Everything looks scrumptious. I hope to do this with my granddaughters when they are a little older. My children both had Bunnykin tea sets when they were little, but I passed them on to them when they had children. Now I think I should have saved those sets at my house to use for a future tea party. Perhaps I will be fortunate to find some cups again second hand?

  39. Such a lovely tea party, especially with little ones partaking. I once had the currants picked out of scones by little hands as they thought they were bugs.

  40. Hi Lorrie, I am just now after 7 years this June trying ti figure out my way to best comment on blogs and wow, you have three, you are amazing even more than I already knew. I am going to have to have a tea party as well. My 3 year old grand-daughter thinks tea parties are all "It" these days. I like green too ;)
