Summer Fun

August? Already? That's one way to think about it. On the other hand, there are still 27 more days to fill with summer delights.

Geese on a pond at Hatley Castle. (A local castle - quite new, in the grand scheme of castles.)

We stopped in the gazebo on the pond for a short snack and some silliness.

We're eating from a wealth of choice these days - apricots, peaches, cherries (almost done), melons and more. I'm also preserving some of the bounty for a taste of summer in the cold rainy months to come. Here it's apricot jam.

Purple carrots are, sadly, orange under the skin. I was hoping for vibrant colours all the way to the core. They tasted fresh and yummy.

I'm spending some time with the little ones this week. Tea parties are always popular, especially when Nana puts a few chocolate chips, raisins, and one big marshmallow in a little cup. Doesn't Miss A look so grown-up, playing "mother"? Mr. F is saying "cheese" without prompting. Apparently, he's been the star of many a photo shoot.

More food. I love meals like this - fresh, simple, and oh, so satisfying.

Time to scram. The little ones will be here shortly. We'll be playing in the splash pool, staying cool under the canvas gazebo, and having more summer fun.

  1. You look like you are having so much fun with your "grands". Tea parties are the best too. That salad makes me want it right now.

  2. It is such a lovely time in the Summer, especially when you can eat your own produce, and make delicious salads by just popping out into the garden.

  11. Perfect summer fun with the grands Laurie. The tea party is adorable.
We had lunch at Pickle Barrel today, not sure if you have this chain out west? I had the most amazing salad of quinoa, roasted chicken cubes, avocado, cheese, tomatoes, corn niblets and black beans - called Santa Fe. Made me think of you and the healthy salad plates you create.
