The Week Between

Our view this morning. I can hardly stop looking out the window.

This week between the years is a slow one, filled with family times, quiet celebrations, or louder ones when the littles are involved. Eleven of us are tucked into a cozy chalet in the mountains, playing games, talking, walking in the snow. Some will ski, others will throw snowballs.

I put my order in for snow in August. We've been blessed with it in abundance. Yesterday's arrival was a bit hair raising, but everything made up on sleds to the chalet and we are tucked in with plenty of good food, books, and crafts.

I can't quite understand those who give a sigh of relief late on Christmas Day and say, "it's over." Advent is the long run up to Christmas and then the festivities begin. Perhaps this is an old-fashioned idea, but it's one I embrace. At home, the tree will wait and we will enjoy its lights, the candles, and the quiet scenes of Christmas until the New Year begins and beyond. This is the season to celebrate!

  2. What a marvellous place to spend Christmas. I'm sure you are having a great time. Send a little of your snow our way please. Enjoy the rest of your holiday. I'm a 12 days of Christmas girl too, but I need gap days between feasting days. So important :) B x

  4. Very cool snow shots, Lorrie! It rained all day yesterday so all our pretty snow is gone. I'm trying to savor the rest of my Christmas break. Enjoy your cozy chalet!

So nice to be enjoying time at a chalet. The perfect word for an abode in the the snow me thinks! :) We keep celebrating during the week between since our daughter's birthday is the 27th. Russian Orthodox Christmas is January 7th!

  6. Oh how Narnia magical is this?! I think you have it just right...now is the time for rejoicing. I am highly suspect of those who have tossed their tree to the curb and are ready to ditch all their leftovers (as my brother-in-law wishes to do). Goodness, this is only the third day of Christmas after all. Merry on!

  8. Just lovely - view and sentiments! I am one of the ones who celebrate vibrantly before and during christmas - and then enjoy the quiet and peace of a clean house - back to "normal". I feel it is a celebration of the quiet and the wonder of a new year beginning - an old year ending - time to contemplate all that has come before - and dream of what is to come. I love it that we all can celebrate our lives in ways that mean so much to each of us. Your snow adventure sounds just wonderful. We vacationed as a family in a chalet in Chillliwack a few years ago - in April - and we had the most delicious snow storm to play in - another way to have fun with family. Cozy and warm and snowy all at the same time. Happy New year my friend across the bay.

  13. I think everyone spends so much time preparing for the day that they forget to actually enjoy it all, especially the quiet time after as we head into the new year. I'm not so sure about the snow part, but it sounds like you are enjoying your family time and it sure does look pretty. Best wishes, Tammy

  14. The view in the first photo is spectacular. For a moment I was wondering if that is the view from your home (and asking myself how I have missed all this beauty) but then understood you are somewhere on a vacation. :) Wonderful snow photos.
In our family, we all agree with you. We decorate the tree on the 24th and leave it up until Epiphany. Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year and we hope to enjoy it fully.

  15. Oh Lorrie...I am in awe of your beautiful snow. FANTASTIC photos too! I love the idea of spending the week "in between" the way you are. I am still enjoying my tree for a few more days. We were in TN with 70+ degree temps! Not my preference but we have to take what we are given. Enjoy the rest of your week and may you have a joyous New Year! ♥

  20. That view! Wow, what a place to get all cozy right now! I thought of you Canadian blogger friends last week when I posted French Canadian Meat Pie. The perfect dish for life in that winter wonderland. I'm intrigued by your use of the Altoid tins!
