Autumn Sun: Mosaic Monday

Last weekend is but a distant, rainy memory in light of today's sunny warmth.

We went for a walk to Tod's Inlet again - it's relatively close by and always beautiful. I don't know the name of the above seed pods, but are they not pretty with their long curving tendrils and red centers?

Autumn color is just beginning. Yellows and reds glow through the evergreens.

Tiny toadstools grow on a mossy log, white and delicate.

Yellow leaves glow in the sunlight but will soon be dry and brown as in the photo beneath. Such is autumn. For now, we'll take all the warmth and sun that comes our way. Such gifts are not to be ignored.

  1. Those seed pods are amazing! The curving part looks a bit like clematis, but those red centres, ah!!! I hope one of your commenters has an idea. . .

  3. Lovely photos and you are so right about enjoying the good weather whilst you can. I was about to suggest that the seed heads are some kind of clematis too though I haven't seen one with the red centres before but the stems and leaves look like something from that family too.

  10. Wasn't it just a lovely weekend? We were out and about enjoying every minute - and now it looks like we will be having rain rain rain and almost 20 degrees less in the temperatures - but I love a good rainy day - nice to snuggle indoors and enjoy books, tea, friends, quilts and the sound of the rain on the skylight. Your photos are fabulous.

  13. Absolutely beautiful !

We don't get the fall leaves much in our part of California. We notice the change of seasons on the beach. The sand begins to erode in the fall and we lose our shortcut across the jetty. By winter the beach is harder to navigate with all the boulders free of sand and fully exposed.

  16. I don't know what those are in the second photo, but I do like the curling bits and the red at their centres. It looks beautiful in your part of the country, Lorrie. It is raining here today, but that brings its own kind of loveliness. I feel a pot of soup coming on a bit later . . .

  17. Gorgeous photos Lorrie. Still warm over here but it looks like the cold spell will start on Thursday so at the weekend I'll be putting on the boots and heading over to the nature reserve to see if any mushrooms have made an appearance round my way xx

  19. What pretty & UNUSUAL plant life, Lorrie! I have no idea what that seed pod is, but I love it!
I'm glad you were able to get out & enjoy it. We're chilly here today...both of us have on sweaters & quilts on our laps.
Thanks for your kind words about the quilts. It was a really fun weekend. I've already started on next year's entries!

  22. Breathtakingly beautiful giants, both the green and the fall infused. Tall, grand and full of character! How lucky to view the former's reflection for a second helping of richness.
