On a Tuesday that Feels like a Monday

Hawthorn berries

Holidays that fall on Mondays extend the weekend so nicely. We spent the day puttering around the house and yard, feeling that autumn has finally settled in to stay.  Now Tim is off to work and since I didn't get a call to teach today, I'm planning to scrub and wax the kitchen floor. Waxing a floor today isn't like the old days where the thick polish was applied, left to dry a little, then polished vigorously. No, this is more like a seal coat - wipe it on and let it dry. But the scrubbing is still the same and I do it with a brush on my hands and knees. Just once a year - the rest of the year is much simpler.

A couple of packages recently arrived on my doorstep. Chai tea (so warming with milk and honey) came from Deborah of The Beautiful Matters, along with two vintage napkins and a golden spoon. Thank you, Deborah.

Sandy of Quill Cottage Studio sent a little package of goodies to inspire creativity. Pretty papers, ribbons and old-fashioned paper dolls. Thank you, Sandy.

Our daughter brought two pies for Thanksgiving dinner - one pumpkin and one Kentucky Derbe (pecan and chocolate). I enjoy a slice of pumpkin pie but chocolate and pecans will win out every time. Which would you choose?

This little mossy twig caught my eye on a recent walk. It looks almost like a bird's nest tucked into the crook of the branch. The background of mellowing colour reminds me once again of October's beauty.

As Anne with an "e" said, "I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.

  1. I've always wondered about pumpkin pie, never having tasted it. I suppose it just isn't a British dish.
I like the sound of the chocolate one!

  6. I always loved a Southern pecan pie made with Karo syrup. Now I enjoy Georgia pecans to snack on when we stop at a pecan packing house on our trips. Love your sweet goodies, especially those paper dolls. Enjoy your week! Hugs, Diane

  9. Those berries look so pretty with the red and green bringing a seasonal Christmas touch. That will be next. As for your pie question I'd take the Kentucky Derby on please. It looks very tasty. Murray had a four day weekend so I'm really off on my days. :)

I think I'd go with the Derby pie but just a wee slice. I love that quote and I do love October!
    Wonderful photos...

  11. I hope that you had a lovely Thanksgiving celebration! Oh, I can't imagine getting on my knees to scrub a floor. I would be in painful agony in 1 second flat. I can't do anything on my knees ever since I got the replacement several years ago. And there is no choice between a pumpkin pie and KY Derby pie. Give me chocolate and pecans!!!

  13. I just noticed on my calendar you guys were having Thanksgiving. We usually have a pumpkin pie once and that is it. Then we start thinking apple or some other fruit.

I am loving that spoon you received.

  14. I know what you mean about getting so many ideas from bloggers...every time I finish one project, I see another I want to try. Wearing this old gal out.:)
and please, save me a piece of the pecan chocolate pie. :)

  15. Every week has a Monday, even if it doesn't come until Tuesday ;>)! I do love chocolate. But pumpkin pie is sort of necessary for Thanksgiving. Sounds like you had a wonderful one. I like the date for yours better than ours -- this time of year there are still some yummy things at the farm stands (or in your garden if you have one). By end of November it is a little late.

    I agree about October!

  16. I'd have the pumpkin - it is my favorite pie in the whole entire world - and then I'd have a smidge of the chocolate pecan, just to be polite, of course.

Lovely photos - love love love the mossy twig.

You received some sweet items in your packages and for me, a silver of both pies!

  20. Yum...I'd take pecan over pumpkin ANY day! Belated Happy Thanksgiving.
Love your photos with your new camera...very crisp!

I am a fan of Chai tea, too & have just started putting a splash of sugar free caramel flavoring in mine. More Yum!

  21. Silly question. I'll have both! But so many people preferred the chocolate and pecan (around the table and in your comments) that I might not bother with pumpkin next year.

  22. Funny how we are accustomed to the cycle of a week and feel not quite in sync when there is a holiday. Yes, love October!

  23. Loved those berries. So pretty.
Well I like pumpkin pie but not a cooked one. I like a no-bake style. Nice gifts you received.
It does look like a little birds nest.

  24. That quote made me smile. So true! We chose October for our wedding, partly because of its beauty.

  25. That hawthorne bush is beautiful! Lovely surprise packages that you received and while I do like chocolate and pecans, give me pumpkin any day of the week. Love your little twig and yes, I too am so happy that I live in a world with Octobers!

  26. I would take the chocolate pie first as long as I could have a slice of pumpkin put away for breakfast the next morning :)

  27. Chocolate pecan for sure. I make pecan and pumpkin for our Thanksgiving and I let everyone else eat the pumpkin. What sweet gifts. I haven't heard of that chai, hope it is good.
