Checking In

There are a few artists I follow on Instagram - Lucy Grossmith is one of them. I love her magical depictions of the natural world, full of intricate detail and whimsy. The fly agaric mushrooms look like I could reach out and feel the nobbly bits. And the fox - so alert and skittish, ready to dash away if I make the wrong move.

There have been no interactions with nature around here this week.
My simple cold, which was easing, suddenly took another form - a dreadful inner ear infection along with aches and chills. Wobbly balance. Hearing out of one ear while things echo in the other is not recommended. I finally went to the doctor and began antibiotics yesterday. Marginally better today.

There have been no walks, no photos, nothing cooked, nothing created. I've lain around, snoozing, content under a blanket on the couch with a hot rice bag to keep me cozy. As I told a friend, this is what happens when one spends time with cute little petri dishes - aka grandchildren. The cold has traveled through the family, but I am special - no one else got an infection. Sigh.

I've managed a couple of books, very light ones, and a few blogs. I hope to get around to more of those this week. My wonderful husband brought me tea with honey, took care of meals (with a little direction), and made me laugh when I could.

I'm looking forward to this new week with renewed energy, although I'll be taking it slowly. We have an event to attend on Wednesday evening and I want to be in good form for that.

  3. Lorrie, I'm so sorry you've had an infection. Thankful you can stay home and be cozy and it's getting better. We've been snowed in this weekend and today, my ear started bugging me and I know it will be an infection. Drops tonight and hopefully it will be better so I can tackle all the tasks on my list this week! Take good care and get better soon. X Chy

Sounds like a case of tinnitus to go with the cold. Take magnesium supplement every day, plus vitamins C, D, Zinc, Lysine, raw chopped garlic, elderberry extract, oregano oil capsules for the cold. Virus and bacteria do not like these, they are also effective as additional treatments for Covid.

I too like Lucy's work and sometimes purchase her cards - I think that she lives in Suffolk.

  9. What a nasty follow up to your cold. I hope the antibiotics are working and you are beginning to feel well again. Winter brings so many of these debilitating 'bugs'. Lucy Grossmith is a favourite here too, her nature studies are so real and so detailed.

Oh, that is too bad, to end up in bed -- but it's good you have someone dear to attend to you, and a cozy house to rest in. Wednesday seems a little soon to be going out, antibiotics or not... please don't overdo it!

  19. I understand how you feel, I am not well at the moment and my husband did the shopping this weekend. I could not do anything after a problem with my COVID vaccine. I am worried about the heart problems following the vaccine.
Not doing much at the moment.

  25. Dear Lorri, I send you many good wishes for a quick recovery. I'm sorry you're sick. The strenght is to be found in serenity.
Don't overdo it, sometimes the body takes a little longer to heal.
    Relax and drink tea.
A hug comes to you. Hoping that you're feeling much better.
The picture with the fox is beautiful. I love it.

  26. I'm sorry to hear about the ear infection. Thank goodness for modern medicine!

I was bummed about missing Taylor's Toronto shows. But I heard that some Swifties got covid after their shows. They had an amazing time, so it was worth it for them.
