Cherry Blossoms

Changeable. Clouds scud across the sky and tree tops toss their heads. Bright sunshine alternates with showers of spattering rain. And all over town blossoms are whipped off the trees to twirl a confetti dance.

Airy pink lines the streets. In some pockets of town the blossoms are nearly finished. In others they are just beginning. Who can resist a cherry tree in blossom?

Not me. The wind tore at our scarves and hair, but I was determined to get some cherry tree blossom photos.

Home now. A cup of tea and some photo editing. A lovely Sunlit Sunday.

  1. All over town the blooming has begun, and as you say, in some parts it is nearly over. I see drifts of blossoms at the edges of the roads and think 'our version of a blizzard'. Your photos are beautiful. The attention to your photography is certainly evident!!

I heard the wind was whipping on your island! Beautiful blossoms. Note to self...go to the University of Washington to enjoy all their cherry trees when they bloom! Tea sounds real good right now!

  5. How come you aren't sharing that sunshine with us today? Over here it has been raining and blowing all day long - not a bit of sunshine - but I'm glad you had some - as the photos are wonderful. Our trees are just now beginning to bloom - wonder why you are ahead of us? Soon the entire town will covered in pink snow - there are thousands of those trees here. We've seen a few beginning to bloom. I love this time of the year.

  6. Simply beautiful--I would be in awe to see these blossoms in person. Thanks for the lovely photos!

Hope to get to Victoria when we visit Vancouver in April. What sort of weather can we expect then?

  8. I have noticed that Victoria seems to get their cherry trees blossoming well before we do on the mainland. Your picture of the blossoming tree is spectacular. I don't think we have anything like that yet. We did have the wind though today.

    Your beautiful description:

  11. Oh, cherry blossom is my 'one weakness', hee hee ;) Superb photos, you are really getting on well with that lens. A shame Spring is so fickle in the weather, but I guess that is part of the package.
We have wild plum blossoms in the hedgerows (white) and blackthorn,(also white).. they don't seem to mind the cold, but the thing I really look forward to, apart from the cherry, is apple blossom. Have to be patient.

  15. The cherry blossoms are wonderful. Will the tree bear fruity? I'd be in a PINK heaven, for sure. Here we have crabapple trees that bloom in such profusion, almost as pretty and pink cherry blossoms.

  16. Just beautiful, Lorrie. I am so anxious for Spring to come here-that will mean part of this journey we are on will be behind us. Love to you- Diana

  17. Gorgeous photos! Spring will probably arrive early here, though cherry blossoms are not usually a part of it. (A random cherry tree here and there, no blankets of them across the town.)

  18. Cherry blossom is so pretty,,thank you for sharing yours. That is very early to be in blossom. It's a shame when the high winds blow it off the branches, it's only short lived at the best of times. I've often been tempted to buy one, but then check myself for the reason I've not had one before.

  31. So beautiful! I just love these early bloomers. The pink blossoms against the blue skies are so lovely and I especially love when the petals carpet the ground below. We are a little later here as we are at a higher elevation - the trees are just now starting to bloom. Enjoy your spring beauty this week! xo K

  33. Thanks for the memories Lorrie. Our street was lined with flowering Japanese plum trees and every street on the walk to school was lined with beautiful trees. The park, the beach and Clover Point seemed part of our own backyard which was filled with fruit trees. Fairfield was such an amazing place to live.

  34. Lemons and now cherry blossoms? Wow! Your part of the country is bursting with glorious colour! I'm very glad you shared these early beautiful trees.
