Beach Views - Vee's Note Card Party

For this month's selection of photos previously published on my blog, I went back a few years. These were taken with my old camera and I can see a huge difference between these older photos and the ones I now take. These shots bring back memories of the short time we lived in Parksville, 2 hours north of our current home. It wasn't an easy time, but walks on the beach provided solace.

That heron in the top photo looks like he's waiting for the ferry to arrive.

An ocean-tossed still life of rocks.

This open shell on the beach looks like a heart. It reminds me of Anne Morrow Lindbergh's book, Gift From the Sea, and the chapter on being open and vulnerable to life.

If I were one of these Canada Geese, I'd be the last one - gingerly stepping into the cold water behind everyone else.Which one would you be - leading the pack, in the middle, or very last?

A visit to Vee and her Note Card Party is always interesting, always enjoyable. You're warmly invited.

  1. Ohhhh...those closing lines so sweet...you can be my official hostess! Hope that many of your readers will take you up on that suggestion. The more the merrier!

I'd be last. I'd be so last that I wouldn't even be in the picture. =D

These are wonderful and perfect for warm Julys. I think the clamshell looks like a butterfly.

  2. Beautiful photos Lorrie. I love the geese one and I'd be with you along the shore unless the water was warmer. :) I always like photos of rocks for some reason. And the open shell is really neat.

  4. OK...beach note cards? You WIN! These would be my very favorites! I love the beach and the ocean and if I was a goose...I'd be the first one in! My Dad used to say that I was like a goose...I woke up in a new world every day. hahaha! I still love to laugh when I remember that! Hugs!

  5. Hi Lorrie,

I LOVE these photos!! I'm so in the mood to go to the beach right now, and these just really speak to me. I laughed at your comment about the heron waiting for the ferry to arrive. :-D I adore the little open shell; we get those on our beaches in North Carolina; a lot of them are ivory colored with soft pink inside. They always remind me of angel wings. My MIL has the Anne Morrow Lindbergh book at their beach house, and I see it on the coffee table every year when we go. It's a small world, isn't it?

I would definitely be the last in line to get in the cold water, or as Vee said, not even in the picture. :) I love your post this month and your friendly invitation for everyone to join Vee's party. Have a wonderful day, Lorrie!

  6. These are beautiful to me. My favorite pick for this month is the sea shell heart. In truth, though, I thought it was a butterfly when I first looked at it. I guess sea shell photography is kind of like an ink blot test.

  7. Love your photos!

Omg ... Parksville that's where my husband and I decided to have our younger daughter over 13 years ago now ~ we were sitting on the beach looking at the ocean. I haven't been there for so long now. Hopefully I will visit there some day again!

  9. I love each and every one, and... I would probably be the middle goose. Not the most adventurous, but not the biggest scaredy-cat either!

  23. I'm pretty sure we have that book on a shelf upstairs but haven't read it. Is it a good one? We used to buy so many books at used book stores for...some day...
When I saw the open shell, I saw a butterfly. Of the geese, I'd be the last one for sure and in the next frame I'd be stepping back out, ha!

  24. These are all so beautiful and serene. I missed a day at the ocean yesterday (plans were changed), so I am enjoying your lovely scenes.

About those geese? I am definitely the last one. My mother says I was born three weeks late, and I haven't caught up yet!

  31. Any photo near the beach fascinates me. Live in the middle of the US and no beaches around. I love the shot of the rock. Great for cards.

Being from a mountainous region, I rarely see seashells and oceans! So your trip to the beach was most welcomed! And I think the Goose with it's foot in the air is the follower!

    Lovely photos! Thanks for sharing!

  33. Love your seaside shots!!! Being on the EAST coast, I'm a seaside lover as well. I'd be the last goose- love being IN the water, but GETTING in is hard...
