Tea Time

Morning tea is fine from a mug, preferably china. But afternoon tea calls for something a little more civilized. I have two of these hostess sets, handed down to me from my mother-in-law. I'll have to ask her if she remembers where they came from. They were made in Japan. Don't you think they are such a practical design, with room for a little treat alongside the cup?

Roses are a favorite adornment for tea cups. I like the softness of these and the gold edging on the handle, base and plate.

After a rather windy, chilly weekend, the sun has returned and it was warm enough to enjoy afternoon tea in the garden, with fresh raspberries (they are very early this year) and a bit of dark chocolate. The tea is Red Rose orange pekoe, fairly weak.

  2. A lovely tea set - and I agree, so practical. We haven't seen any raspberries down here yet - but the fields are beginning to look like the berries are close to ripe - I can't wait!

  4. Your tea sounds fabulous! We've had very wild weather today--hail, thunder so loud it startled me, rain and a mix of sun and clouds. Raspberries sound divine--heard today our yellow ones are now ripe:)

  5. Lorrie, those tea sets are just so beautiful and pracitcal. My mom used to have a large set of clear ones that she used when she had ladies meetings at our house.

  6. A perfect design! Of course, I'd have to refill mine a few times. My (fine bone china) usual tea mug holds at least 3x as much!

  11. Hello Lorrie,
It's nice to 'meet' another fellow Canadian blogger! Your snack set is really pretty and they do come in handy for a cup of tea and a wee treat on the side. My hubby's go to tea is Red Rose. So glad you joined me for Tea Time. I'm a new follower and have a beautiful day.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  16. My mother gave me two of these tea sets in a different pattern than your roses and they do come in handy. I am sipping my morning tea out if a bone china mug and am craving those raspberries and some chocolate! I don't think it will be too windy today....

  18. I don't own one, but I like the hostess sets some of my tea friends have, and use. Mmm, raspberries and chocolate together make sense to me and we drink our tea about the same - amber in colour.

  23. Tea needs to be celebrated, and a beautiful teacup is the way to go! It's the slowing down that is also an important part of the celebration. Oh and the fruit and c h o c o l a t e too!

  25. Such an elegant way to pause during the day & enjoy a cuppa tea! I never would have thought to pair raspberries with a nibble of chocolate but you can bet I'm going to try it ASAP.
Your beautiful rose adorned "snack plates" are just PERFECT for the occasion!!!!!! I would love to have a similar set for when my quilting friends come to sit & stitch. I have 2 different "Luncheon" sized sets, that have the little well for the cup to stabilize inside but none are as small & as delicate as yours.
I'm putting them on my "hunt" list!! Thanks for sharing them...they are beautiful.

  26. Most civilized...your afternoon tea time! Red Rose orange pekoe takes me back to my grandmother's table...where the tea was served in her 'old country rose' tea cups. We are enjoying raspberries over here as well!

  28. Very pretty tea plates and cups. And you are right, they are just right for a little tea snack. Raspberries and chocolate would be a favorite. Red Rose tea can be delightful too. I usually ice Red Rose tea and quite enjoy during the summer months.
