Five Favourites of the Week

This week has had many lovely moments. Nothing dramatic, but ordinary days have a sweetness all their own.
Our hike on Monday was a highlight - all that fresh air, blue sky, and stunning scenery was a tonic.

I made a Leek Tart for the first time. Easy and delicious. Too much for the two of us for a meal, but leftovers are always welcome for lunches.

Until the past week or two our temperatures have been quite warm and the poor roses keep trying to bloom. Still pretty even when tiny and frozen.

Two loaves of bread, sliced and put into the freezer. Of course there is always a slice or two to be eaten while warm.

A bunch of tulips made their way into my grocery cart. Isn't it interesting how tulips lengthen in the vase and have to be cut down every few days?

It has taken awhile, but I certainly do know it now – the most wonderful gift I had, the gift I finally learned to cherish above all else, was the gift of all those perfectly ordinary days.                            Katrina Kenison

  4. Yes, ordinary days would be welcome.
Joe brought me a piece of quiche home, along with a kale ceasar salad. (He can't eat eggs!)

  18. Lorrie, I haven't been to your blog for such a long time. My apologies. I wodner why not, I always think your posts are so lovely, both the words and the photos. That first photo is gorgeous! I never made leek tart, but I would love to try it. Do you have a recipe for it or did you just wing it? When I do my grocery shopping at Trader Joe's I usually bring home some tulips when they're available, I just love them so much. Yours look wonderful. Sometimes I combine them with babys breath, that makes beautiful simple bouquets. It's been a long time since I last baked bread, but seeing your photo of the freshly baked bread and imaging the wonderful scent I feel very tempted to make some this week. Thank you for this lovely post - there's nothing wrong with ordinary, on the contrary. - Carola

  19. Bonjour Lorrie,
Do you speak french ? You left comments in french on my blog.
Have a nice week and thank you for visiting

Ordinary days definitely have their own sweetness. That tart looks soooo good. Love picking up flowers at the market, I did that just yesterday.

  22. I agree Lorrie, it is amazing how tulips continue to grow in a vase. Flowers sure can perk one up especially in wintertime. Your leek tart and bread loaves look fabulous. I made French bread yesterday and my sourdough bread is rising overnight before its second rise tomorrow.
My late beloved and I went to Mexico years ago and enjoyed our time there together.
