Decor to Adore is a blog I've followed for a very long time. Laura writes about decorating - in the real world. She is such a gentle soul, creative and generous. I'm pretty sure that if we ever meet in real life, we'll get along famously. Recently she held a giveaway, and I won these beautiful earrings. I love the light and sparkle to them, and since I have dark hair, I try to wear lighter coloured earrings. These are perfect! Thank you, Laura.

Now that the craft fair is over (with moderate success), I'm working on Christmas projects. The bags shown above were created from donated upholstery samples. Fronts and backs are different and I've had such fun mixing and matching colours and prints. They will be filled with toiletries, gloves, and other items to give to disadvantaged women in our town. Tomorrow we'll get together and fill them.

Things are looking bare in the decorating department around here. I'm putting away the autumn decor and cleaning in preparation for Advent, which begins on Sunday. Full scale decorating won't begin until later. We always have a real tree and like to keep it up until New Year's, so we wait. I'm liking the idea of bringing out the decorations a bit at a time - Advent candles and some greenery this weekend, followed by the Nativity scene, the outdoor wreath and others.

I'm feeling very mellow about Christmas this year, or at least, at this moment. That could change at any moment.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my American friends. Have a wonderful day!

  1. I think the earrings will look really lovely on you. So glad they arrived safely.

    Have a lovely week.

  2. Congratulations on winning the earrings, Lorrie! I bet they'll look great on you! :)

I agree 100% with what you've written about Laura -- such a nice person and I really enjoy her posts on decorating, history, family, and faith. I feel that her decorating is "real world" as well, which is a breath of fresh air after some of the things we see. :)

Thank you for your Thanksgiving wishes to us here in America; I hope you have a wonderful week and weekend!

  3. I really like the earrings you won in the give away, Lorrie. They are sweet. What a great idea to gift toiletries in your cloth bags to the less fortunate. I like the square blue plate with the white edge on your shelf. Have fun starting with your Christmas decorating.

  4. Pretty earrings!
And those bags you've made are great and what a wonderful project -- they will be much appreciated, I'm sure.

  5. I feel a desperate need to tidy and declutter before the Christmas decorations come out. It won't happen this week. Thanks for watching my little one.

  6. Love the pretty ear-rings - lucky you! Those bags look beautiful and am sure the ladies will love having them.

  7. What lovely earrings, such a pretty set to win. And what a nice idea to fill the pretty bags to give such pleasure.

  8. Pretty earrings. It is the time of year to help those less fortunate and your bags to be filled will no doubt make some women happy.

  9. Congratulations on winning those pretty earrings.
Like you, I like to prepare for Christmas over the time of Advent. I'm not a big fan of 'everything up and lot on Dec 1st. We leave our tree up until January 6th and I enjoy that quiet time after all the hysteria in the shops and online. I saw your comment on the Hostess' post - let's make that walk/tea/chat happen!

  10. The earrings are so pretty! And your bags look wonderful … I like the idea of a special bag for those necessary and nice things to give to the disadvantaged.

  11. Those earrings are so delicate and pretty. I like the heart, thoughts and labour of love those little bags hold. To give is such a joy...and the receivers will be so blessed!

  12. Lucky you! The earrings are beautiful, I bet it was fun receiving them in the mail. Enjoy getting Christmas stuff out ! Take care.

  13. Beautiful earrings and congratulations on winning them! Our decorating is done here. We started on Sunday and finished on Monday. I'd rather get it all over with rather than drag it out. I couldn't wait to vacuum up all the messes on the floor, LOL!

  14. Congrats on winning the beautiful earrings...they are lovely. And the toiletry bags are a wonderful touch, and will be appreciated by the woman's shelter.

  15. Congrats on your win! I first remember Laura from a series Miss Sandy did at Quill Cottage. It was based upon Laura's ancestor Laura Ingalls Wilder. It was called "Remembering Laura." (I think.)

Now that my fake tree is up, I'm feeling more mellow about decorating for Christmas, too. I can decorate at my own speed, which means I may be ready next year at this time. = D

It's Friday - A Short Boating Excursion

"Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats....
