Variable Skies

Alberta's skies are endlessly fascinating. During our three days visiting family we spent a lot of hours in the car. Albertans think nothing of driving an hour here or there. I enjoyed looking out the window admiring the ever-changing cloud formations.

These photos were taken at our nephew's acreage, around sunset.

Golden fields below, dark green bands of trees and rolling hills and then the sky, big and beautiful.

We left the prairies this morning and are spending a couple of days in the Rockies. It's cold just now. The drizzling rain in town translates to fresh snow at higher elevations. I included a couple of rooftops in the photo to show how close the snow is. Colder weather is on the way.

We did a short hike this afternoon and have a longer one planned for tomorrow. The temperature is supposed to fall to 1 degree Celsius tonight. Brrrrr. Variable skies, indeed!

  1. The sky! Truly the "bread for the eyes," isn't it?...and it's so special to get a photo of rain in the distance.

  2. Those are stunning. I was just telling my daughter last night that I think of all God's creation, His sky is my favorite.

  3. Beautiful country. Are the cool temperatures normal for this time of year or do you feel an early fall followed by an early winter? Have I told you how much Ilkie your header? Have a wonderful week end.

  7. So pretty! Seeing that mountain reminds of me of getting stuck on the top of Pikes Peak this summer because of a freak snow storm. We've had lots of clouds here, too lately, which is unusual when it is 115 degrees outside. but sure makes for colorful sunsets. Enjoy the rest of your trip. Tammy

  8. Those amazing skies and cloud formations are part of why I love areas east of the Cascades. And the Rockies? Well they hold a very dear place in my heart:)

  14. Beautiful sky shots, there is nothing like the prairies to get wonderful shots of that great big sky. Hope you weren't near Claresholm when the snow hit this week!
