Like many others around the world yesterday, I closely followed the news about Queen Elizabeth II, and was saddened to hear of her death.
In elementary school, we opened each day's classes by singing God Save the Queen, followed by reciting The Lord's Prayer. She visited Canada 22 times, and I saw her on one of the visits. Prince (now King) Charles and her other children accompanied her as she walked through the park where we had lined up to see her.
As Canada's Head of State, the Queen's death triggers a variety of protocols and procedures here, as well as in the UK. This link gives a summary.
And so passes an era. She was an inspiration to many, and I admired her strength of character, her humour, and her faith.
My daughter has sent me a message yesterday as we decided not to listen to any news during our trip to have a break. She will be missed by many people . I waved to her when I was a child when she sailed on her yatch on the river Seine. It is a sad news for me too.
ReplyDeleteSo much to admire about her and her reign. Sweet tribute.
ReplyDeleteInteresting article. The world already feels different without her. She was a remarkable woman. I'm happy for her, that she is with her beloved Philip. And sad for her family, who must miss her so much.
ReplyDeleteAll Britain & the Commonwelth is mourning. She was the soyl of the royal family.
ReplyDeleteI've thought so much of my UK and Canadian internet friends yesterday and today. If I'm feeling this sad, as a US citizen, how much more must all of you be feeling, along with such respect and pride in the life she lived.
ReplyDeleteThank you for providing the link to upcoming remembrances. I watched the service earlier, so touched by the faces or ordinary faces there. I had to check online yesterday to see how old I was when I watched the televised coronation service. I was 10 years old and still remember bits of it. She was just two years younger than my own mother who also lived to 96 years old.
Her smile was so very lovely, she did indeed have a sense of humour.
ReplyDeleteSuch a very special lady, she will be missed.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Although she lived a long life, it does seem hard to believe that she is gone. What a lovely photo of her. I think my interest in the royal family began with Diana. My appreciation for Queen Elizabeth came after watching The Crown. What an amazing lady she was.
ReplyDeleteHi Lorrie, what a lovely picture of Queen Elizabeth. Canada scored many more visits than Australia! You must be a favourite Commonwealth country. That is very special that you sang God Save the Queen at school. We only heard it occasionally. Australia too will go through the protocols over the next few days as King Charles III ascends the throne. Certainly it ends an era, and the Queen will be much missed.
ReplyDeleteI respected and admired her. The monarchy generally, not so much.
ReplyDeleteShe will be greatly missed.
ReplyDeleteHer passing almost feels unreal, a bigger than life moment.
"So passes an era" . . .
ReplyDeleteWe all feel that I think!
Amazing woman...
ReplyDeleteShe kept her promise...
Gentle hugs...
She was an amazing woman.
ReplyDeleteDear Lorrie, I am so sad about the passing of the Queen. She has always been such a lady, full of dignity and grace. And such an inspiration in so many ways to the entire world. She will be truly missed.
ReplyDeleteThis certainly is the end of an era. Charles III has big shoes to fill.
ReplyDeleteShe's been a constant in our lives, and truly fit to be a queen. She will be missed.
ReplyDeleteOur country is also flying our flag at half mast in her honor -- one she certainly deserves.
ReplyDeleteShe was radiant in every outfit she wore -love this turquoise ensemble. Like you, I have closely followed the sad news of the Queen's death and have watched segments of the proceedings and pageantry these past few days.
ReplyDeleteI feel sad for the passing of this era. The Queen was an inspiration for so many, including myself. What a legacy!
