Hope

Do you have the experience that when you say a word over and over, or think about it for a long time, the word itself becomes stranger rather than more familiar? I've been thinking about "Hope" for the past few days. And I became curious. Where did that word come from? It doesn't sound Latin or Greek. And sure enough, it has an unknown origin, probably Low German. Some say it might have a connection with the word "hop" with the image of "leaping in expectation."

I'm indirectly involved in a very painful situation. I hurt for those more involved and I wonder about hope. The outcome looks bleak, even hopeless, without hope. Yet I know there is hope because of God's love and purpose, working in and through both the good and the bad in life. And I pray that in the darkness and troubled times we all experience, our hearts will "leap in expectation" of what God will do as we wait and watch.

  8. There are a lot of levels and layers to what you said about hope- and it looks like there are a lot of layers and views to your hope birds in a compote piece- it's lovely.

  9. I enjoyed your thoughts about hope. "Leaping in expectation" really provides a beautiful picture of what we can do, all because He is more than able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or even think!

Lorri, this is my first time to your site.... and I'm so glad I stopped by. You have a lovely place to visit. A gentle and creative spirit exudes. So refreshing!

I can also see from your profile that we must be kindred spirits..... we both share a love of Rosamund's books, Anne of Green Gable, Blue Castle (a real favourite), Gift from the Sea, as well as the Lord Peter books.

Are you aware there are DVD's available of some of the Lord Peter books..... I love those too!

Please come and see me when you get a chance. I love writing about living a beautiful life, as I see you do too!

    Joy and Hope! Brenda

  11. Hope is a great and strong word.

I'm just a beginner at blogging and am having a great time with it. So many inspirational people out there.

Just to let you know that I am glad to have found your blog as I grew up on the island, specifically near Brentwood. I'm now in Toronto. Family and friends in Victoria, so I visit as often as I can.
I'll be following your lovely blog. Have a wonderful day, Darlene
