Along the Shore

Sunny days with the temperature hovering around 0 (celsius) are more preferable to me than slightly warmer days with rain. Yesterday afternoon an afternoon walk along the beach was just the ticket. Gulls and crows thought so, too. They flew ahead of us, alighting on the rocky, driftwood-strewn shore, paying no attention to us.

These gulls strike me as complacent birds, standing with heads hunched into their backs, regarding the world with little curiosity.

Waves rush over rocks, then draw back.

My camera tells me this picture was taken at 3:49 PM. The days are still so very short, lengthening imperceptibly.

Did you notice the white house there in the left corner of the background photo? Wouldn't that be a wonderful place to live? I don't think I'd get much done - all my time would be spent staring out the window.

  1. I'd be staring out the window, too. Or walking the beach and taking pictures. Such a lovely set of photos here, Lorrie.

  3. It is all beautiful and so peaceful. I much prefer the cooler air as well. To live on the coast....I don't think I would ever need a vacation. Bonnie

  5. They must have amazing views; however, they must also have to clean the windows a lot. I've never wondered about the curiosity of a gull. (Must not be so curious myself.) They do seem very curious about what's in my picnic lunch. Such beautiful photography, Lorrie!

  6. Your photos show such a beautiful part of the country and make me dream about living by the sea and walking its shores. That white house would be just the place to appreciate the view on the water's wilder days.

Thank you for sharing your post at Sunlit Sunday, Lorrie.

  16. Perhaps that is what happened to me, I worked indoors with no windows for 24 years and it made me ill.

  17. Beautiful pictures! I find the cold wearing after a few days of it, quite honestly, but for now I am loving the crispness that the cold sunny days impart.

  19. Oh, I do wonder about that lovely house with the magnificent view. Whenever I travel to the big city (rarely), there are some houses that always capture my imagination. They sit on a hill overlooking the river. As I drive or ride over the bridge, my eyes are drawn toward those homes, and I imagine what it is like to live there myself.

Thank you for sharing these engaging winter scenes.

  24. I love all of your photos, it makes my heart yearn for my winter beach in White Rock. And funnily enough, the sunset shot, could be taken from my beach.
