Boating in November

After church on Sunday morning, we thought to invite some friends out for coffee. They had a better idea. So seven of us met at the marina and clambered aboard their Nordic Tug. We set course for Fulford Harbour on Saltspring Island.

The cool frost of early morning gave way to sunshine. In the distance, Mount Baker (in Washington State) shows off her snowy garb.

We women (3) sat outdoors while the men discussed boat technicalities in the cockpit. Our faces lifted to the warm sun, blankets (barely needed) around our legs, we sipped mugs of tea or coffee and marveled at the beauty around us. We talked an awful lot, too.

Lunch at the Rock Salt Restaurant was delicious. I had an Saigon Chicken Salad, lovely with Asian flavours of ginger, peanut, crispy vegetables and grilled Naan bread.

Light began to fade as we headed home.

The sun slanted low across the horizon, turning the water to liquid steel.

This weather is unusual  - we're normally inundated with rain by now. I'll not complain one iota!

I'm thinking of all my friends south of the border these days as you prepare for Thanksgiving. I hope your preparation is full of joyful anticipation.

  5. What a fabulous day on the water.............your pic of Mt. Baker is gorgeous Lorrie.
'Nordic Tug' sounds like an interesting vessel - is it large like a real tugboat?
The lunch choice looks yummy - if they do a version sans chicken I'll stop by some day!!!
Glad you were able to enjoy a November day in sunshine and warmth before the real winter weather arrives on the island.

Hugs - and thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes!

  11. Hi Lorrie. I had to look up Nordic Tug to see what exactly one is (can you believe it, coming from a tugboat family!) What a lovely way to spend a day with friends. I've included a link to a video I found on You Tube about the Jessie Hodder. The tug was built for my uncle's company and was named after my Nana, Jessie Henderson Hodder. They also built the JR Hodder, the HN Hodder, and the KayMar tugs. Isn't this sunshine fabulous.

  12. That was certainly a nice treat for late November, Lorrie. Your photos are beautiful. Love the Mount Baker one! Lunch looks really delicious too. A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon with friends. We're in for a major rain and wind storm tomorrow. 50 - 100 mm. of rain! I hope they're wrong.

Your lunch looks so fresh and tasty. I think I spy cilantro on the top. One of my favorite herbs.

  17. Beautiful Sunday afternoon and beside the wonderful view the salad looks delicious.
Now this view of Mt. Baker is the opposite of what I see when I visit my mother-in-law.
How fun to see it from your view.

  18. Gosh, what a neat thing to do! I love being on the water and wish we lived closer to a large body to have a pontoon boat to just hang out with the kids on. I guess it makes it that much sweeter when we do get to go on a boat ride.
