The garden keeps showing off beautiful blooms day after day. I know that their time is short and I am cutting flowers with abandon, placing vases on tables and mantels throughout the house. I photographed a collection of three arrangements all crowded together on the dining room table - dahlias, zinnias, and cosmos, each in their own container.
I've since cut down most of the cosmos as I need to tidy the garden beds in order to plant garlic in the next few weeks, and these sprawling flowers had taken over a lot of space. I've left one or two smaller plants in out-of-the-way spots where the bees can still enjoy them.
Hydrangeas are fading, but still so pretty.
While out in the garden on a recent sunny day, I heard a loud whirring behind me and turned to see an Anna's Hummingbird so close that I could have touched it. It's hard to capture them in photos for they move so fast and don't stay anywhere for any length of time. The birds will winter here, feeding on seed heads and anything that might bloom. I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as
autumnal sunshine by staying in the house.

So many beautiful blooms in your garden. Your hydrangeas have fared well this summer. All our flowers have been burnt and shrivelled by the heat.
ReplyDeleteI’ve explained about commenting problems on your last comment on my blog. . I’ll post it her too. Hope it helps. B x
Cross site tracking unticked when problems with comments on safari. The opposite with chrome.
If use safari on your iPad you need to find the box for cross site tracking and it needs to be unticked. I had the same problem and found that if that box is ticked then safari cannot allow you to be signed into blogger. It is do with the fact that blogger is more than one site, I cannot profess to understand what was going on but I do know that unticking that box works. It may periodically get switched back on again so that cross site tracking is not possible (this always happens after a software upgrade) so you will have to go and check again. On a laptop this is under preferences and privacy. I hope that helps!
Have you come across Jane Brocket's books? She writes on substack, and also creates the posts for persephone books in Bath (persephone books has a fabulous website)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flower arrangements from your garden. How wonderful to see and hear the Anna's Hummingbird:)
ReplyDeleteLorrie, I don't know which is lovelier -- your beautiful photos or the flowers themselves!
ReplyDeleteBonjour Lorrie,

Nice to see your hummer. Ours are long gone. It's been cold overnight.
ReplyDeleteLove the mix of blooms you brought inside -- such cheerful color!
ReplyDeleteAnd wow, a hummingbird right at your shoulder, what a treat.
I love that we have some hummingbird's that winter over in our area too. Your garden flowers are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLovely flowers.
