Old Books

Rebecca Sower's blog is always full of sweet and simple ideas. With a red ribbon I tied an old German hymnbook and an Old Book of Common Prayer from the Church of England. A bit of greenery clipped from my yard and a crocheted doily and voilà, a pretty vignette for a living room end table.

I read about this book tag over at A Haven for Vee and since I love books...here goes.

The rules of this tag are these:
1. Link to the person who tagged you and post the rules on your blog.
2. Share seven random and/or weird book facts about yourself.
3. Tag seven random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
4. Let each person know that they've been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

1. My younger sister and brother say their only memories of me in our childhood involve me with my nose in a book.

2. When I'm really stressed and have a lot to do, instead of doing, I'll sit down with a book for an hour and when I stop I'm completely refreshed and ready to tackle my tasks.

3. I have favourite books for different seasons. In summer I like to read summery books - Frenchman's Creek by Daphne DuMaurier is one. Parts of Jan Karon's books have great summery scenes. Wintery books include parts of Anne of Green Gables, and LM Montgomery's Blue Castle - maybe one of my most favourite books.

4. I read really, really fast and hate to see a book end. It's hard to find a book fat enough for me. Gone with the Wind was pretty good. I like sequels, but not if the story is strained.

5. When I read about food, I like to imagine up a recipe. The Little House books are good for that, and Rosamunde Pilcher's books.

6. Jane Austen's books are not on my favourites list. Why, I do not know because I enjoy reading the classics.

7. I have several books on the go at once. Currently, Each Man's Son by Hugh MacLennan and Marie Chapdelaine by Louis Hémon (in French).

I'm not tagging anyone in particular, but if you love to read, I'd love to hear about it. If you do the tag, let me know so I can come visit you.

  1. Lorrie - so glad you visited --
Books are one of my favorite things- altho - if i get my Bible study in , I usually don't read much else -- The other day I found a beautifully illustrated copy of The Secret Garden - at the Goodwill store -for $1.50 - as a child I read many books from the school library -but sadly owned hardly any -- so now I can never let books or mags go - need to pare down and share --just love them -so the books tied with a bow speak to me --Kathy -ga

  2. Hi Lorrie,

What a fun tag. I am a book girl too! There is nothing better than curling up with a book. When I was a kid, given the choice, I'd take reading over playing outside.

I love The vignette. The wall hanging is very clever. Grandma was a smart lady!

  3. Hi Lorrie!

I'm glad that you decided to do this one and I can tell that we have a few similarities in reading selections and in how we "do" things. I often chill out with a book for a while so I can re-focus.

The books tied with red ribbon and a bit of greenery are so pretty. What a charming idea. I sometimes buckle a stack of books together with an old belt, but now I think I'll try this with a few.

    Thanks for your visit today!

  4. Loving the bookish theme! I was fascinated to read all your different genres. I like du Maurier, Pilcher, Karon, and Montgomery... but you mentioned a couple of their books I have not yet read. I need to start a list.

Thanks so much for the concern. I am feeling some better today, not quite all the way. Actually I had hot lemon tea earlier today ...and then some hot peppermint tea later... but could you please pass the chicken soup through the computer? Who knows, maybe one day it will be possible. He he.

    Blessings,
    Christi

  5. I too am a fast reader and when finishing a good book I almost feel like I have lost a good friend.
Nothing is better than a book!

  6. Ahh, a girl after my own heart! I love books! Nothing better than curling up with a good book to escape the world! I love your book choices (and have read most of them!) and thrilled to see some Canadian authors in your list!
