Investing Your Life

This is my nephew Colin, with his eldest son. I caught them in a tender moment during a big family Christmas gathering at our house in December 2008.

I've been thinking a lot about Colin recently, and came across this quotation by a British musical group Mumford and Sons. Their lyrics are very powerful, and they sing with great emotion. I don't know that many people in my age group would enjoy their music, but I do. I doodled these lines in my art journal this morning

"in these bodies we will live
in these bodies we will die
where you invest your love
you invest your life"

Colin is 29, and has two sons, ages 4 and 2. He has a loving and beautiful wife. He has a strong faith in God. He has invested his love and his life in his family. And this past year he has struggled, battled and fought against cancer. Yesterday, treatment was halted.

I rarely share such personal details and sorrows on my blog. But it's all I can think about today. If you pray, please pray for Colin and his family.

  2. Sometimes we are dismayed, disappointed, discouraged, disheartened and yet we stand firm knowing that God is bigger than cancer. He is loving, able, and willing to do far more. (My mom's treatment was also canceled. She is alive today because of the goodness of the Living God. I am praying the same prayer for Colin so that he will have the opportunity to raise his little boys and stay with his wife and family.)

Peace and love to you and all your family...

  6. Lorrie - after seeing that beautiful picture of father and son I thought you would be sharing a special story of how Colin is such a wonderful Dad. I'm sure he is and I will certainly hold him and his family in my thoughts and prayers. I will pray for you too knowing how hard it will be for you and your family this summer. Sheila

  7. Oh Lorrie...I am so very sorry to hear about this little family's struggle. It is so very sad when a young person is struck with this wretched disease. My heart and prayers are with you and with Colin, his wife and little boys.
I really love that photograph...such a beautiful memory of that day.

    All of my best,

I do pray, and I will include Colin and your family in my prayers. I will also affirm: Colin trusts the process of life. Colin is safe, he is loved, and he is healed.

That's what I did while my brother was dying, knowing that being healed is not the same as being cured. A few days before he died, Tom said to me, "I feel like the luckiest man in the world. I'm so loved." He was 46, and left behind a wife, three kids and a one year-old granddaughter. I wish the same type of healing for Colin.

  12. Oh...I was so sad to read this! I can still picture Colin as a child...and then a teen...always smiling and so full of life. We partnered with him during his college years...and as he went to hockey camps. We attended his wedding some years ago...and wished him and his wife many blessings on the journey ahead. We know he is in God's hands...though it is sometimes hard for us to see the big picture. One of our pastors shared Colin's story awhile back...and there was not a dry eye in the congregation. Our thoughts and prayers are with Colin, his wife and children...his parents, siblings and grandparents...and you and your family as well, Lorrie.

  13. Hi my dear friend,

You know I believe in the power of prayer. Thank you for praying for me and sharing this with us as well.
Colin and his family will continue to be in our prayers. He has a strong faith and that faith will give him the courage he needs.
May God Bless him and give him peace as he continues his battle.
God can do what man (doctors) cannot.

    xoxo,
    Barb

  14. Lorrie, this news saddens my heart. But, what an opportunity for GOD to show his omnipotent power, for who else can heal and make one whole again? I believe in the POWER of prayer and it seems like the prayer warriors are already on duty! My prayers are with Colin and his family as well.

Hi again Lorrie. I was so glad that I was able to see Colin and Melissa last week in Calg. I had an appt at the Foothills and was able to join them for some lunch. Of course, my heart was breaking a few days later when we received word that treatment was being stopped and Colin was going to return to Med Hat. I was so glad for the hug and tears I was able to shed. I told him that I have been enjoying your blog and site too :) My heart is heavy for them, they have touched so many people with the story that God is writing on their life pages....we can take heart in each others prayers and know that the Motz family is praying for the Burritt family.
