Of Islands in Springtime

Saltspring, Mayne, Galiano, Portland, Prevost, Saturna, Pender - the Gulf Islands in the Salish Sea used to be just names on a map to me. Now, almost 11 years after moving here, I can identify many of them as we sail past on BC Ferries. The vista above is taken from the westward looking vantage point of Oak Bluff on North Pender Island. All of the land masses visible are other islands.

We, along with 6 other friends, spend a night at Poet's Cove, soaking in the hot tub, talking, talking, talking, laughing, eating, and walking. I am thankful for good friends. Skies were mostly cloudy, with sunshine breaks and a few showers that bothered us not at at all.

I don't know the name of this little blue wildflower. It's just a weed, less than 1 cm long, dotting the grassy wild rocky bluffs overlooking the water.

E. E. Cummings expresses my thoughts well: "I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes."

  6. Trying again..I use that phrase so often lately.

It is a good thing to learn one's own area well. To know the names of the local sights is just plain cool. I don't even know some street names in my own home town.

  9. Oh lovely. The islands are one of our favorite places to visit. Sometimes we get on our Washington ferry at Anacortes and ride all day. It is 11.00 per person - you can get off and on the ferries as much as you like - stopping to visit the islands or have a bite to eat - and back on another ferry. You can ride around the islands all day, so long as you don't get on a ferry back to Anacortes - then it is another 11.00 if you want to go back out. It is a little more for taking a car if you want to explore the islands more - but sometimes it is just fun to roam about on foot on the waterfronts. Great photos.

Your first photo looking our to the islands could have been taken here in New Zealand!!
That precious tiny blue weed is evidence of God's hand at work, creating beauty in a lowly weed too!

Traditions Old and New

Oh the rain. It drums down on the skylight. There are great puddles on the streets and sheets of water spray when cars drive through them....
