Do You Have $95 million to spare?

Before I get to what this post has to do with the title I thought I'd show you a photo of Tim with our two granddaughters, each wearing a little dress made from one of his worn out shirts (The parts that wear out are the cuffs and collars, leaving lots of perfectly good fabric to work with.) This link will take you to the original post (but no tutorial.) We had a fun lunchtime barbecue with the family (minus two).

In the evening Tim and I went downtown to walk along the Inner Harbour. One of us loves looking at boats and the other one loves taking photos. A massive yacht was tied up to the dock. These masts rise nearly 200 feet into the air.

The boat is a mega yacht, the Athena. I looked it up via Google, and as of last summer, it was for sale for just $95 million. So if you have some spare cash lying around, this boat could be yours. Click on the link for more information, and to see some wonderful photos of the yacht under sail. At the time the article was written, the Athena was the largest sailing schooner in the world. Since then, other yachts have surpassed it in size. Now it's only the 4th largest.

After oohing and aahing at the boat and strolling along the water, we took a front row seat at a restaurant. It felt almost like being in Europe watching the tourists and locals alike pass by. Above was our view - the Inner Harbour with the Legislature behind it. It was a great way to spend Father's Day.

I don't have $95 million, but I'm blessed to have a wonderful husband and a wonderful father, and to see my daughters married to loving men, and my son following in his father's footsteps. It's not something I take for granted. Thanks be to God.

  1. Lorrie, your grand daughter's shirt dresses are adorable on them! Great job.

I can't imagine spending that much money on a boat, as beautiful as it must be. Wow! I know if I had that much money, I'd want to spread it around, pay off my kids mortgages, fund the non-profit I started, fund the other non-profit I work for & take family & friends on many memorable trips. It would be fun!

Thanks for sharing your great pictures.

Oh yes, there are things that are far more valuable than a paltry $95 million! In fact, there is no price on them...

Your granddaughters are so adorable! The dresses you made for them are perfect--I'd never guess they were made from your husband's shirts. Wonderful idea!

  7. Your fabulous sewing skills never cease to amaze dear Lorrie - and those two sweeties look so pretty in their "shirt dresses"!!!!

As for the view from the restaurant - be still my heart, one of my favorite spots in the world, Victoria's waterfront, only the ivy-clad Empress is missing! I know your Tim was enjoying his Father's Day.

Athena, what a yacht! Always unbelievable to read about the money these technie's have made to spend on such 'toys'. Then there are the oil multi-billionaires who buy ships too - our 100 passenger/70 crew Caledonian Sky on this last trip was actually, in its previous life, the party boat for an Arabian prince! Some of the crew were working the boat when he owned it and shared some interesting stories!

BTW, he sold it to purchase a bigger boat!!!!!

Glad to be back home, and thank you for your many comments - I always LOVE hearing from you dear friend. Hugs - Mary

  10. It's hard to wrap my brain around the idea that anyone has that kind of money to spare on a boat! I suppose it's all relative, though. I'm sure I spend money on stuff that others would find mind boggling...
Love the photo of the girls in the little dresses from grandpa's shirts!

  12. YOu have your priorities in the right place! Having loving people in our life makes us richer than anything else! Beautiful boats thought.

What sweet babies. And how ingenious to make such pretty jumpers for your girls out of a worn shirt. So cute... and sentimental!

PS: I definitely would NOT buy a yacht if I had $95 mill:)
