There have been flirtations through the years. A fling with a red-wallpapered dining room, a set of strawberry patterned stoneware, a green bedroom, a yellow kitchen. But I've always returned to my love of blue and white. And I don't think it's much of a secret. All of the above were gifts given to me by different people.
The teapot, made in Vietnam and purchased at 10,000 Villages by my younger daughter, the jug holding the hydrangeas by a long-time friend, the vase by my sister-in-law. My elder daughter brought the rectangular dish back from Holland several years ago, and the oval dish in the centre just arrived in my daughter-in-law's suitcase from Spain.
It looks like blue and white is a winning combination all over the world. What is your favourite colour? Have you flirted with others through the years?
Your blue and white collection is very pretty and the memories associated with each piece makes it even more special.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite color has always been blue. My kitchen is blue and white with a bit of yellow and to me it's the cheeriest room in the house.
Blue and white is so classic! I should think that a gal can go with exactly what makes her feel happiest. In my case, it would be yellows, though I have often found myself doing other things because of what others have selected. The big blue living room set comes to mind. =D
ReplyDeleteProbably like yours blue and white though I have some pretty Turkish china which is blue and white and turquoise which always reminds me of hot summer days. Now that I have said that and read Vee's comment I have to say my yellow, orange and green pottery salad bowl is a favourite combination too and then there's my pretty little pink and white Spode dish .... I guess I don't actually have a favourite after all!
ReplyDeleteMy love is the old dark green depression glass. I've loved it since I was a young girl & my dad would take me to auctions to bid on it. I have shelves all around my dining room filled with the glass ware & it comes down for use for special occasions.
ReplyDeleteBlue and white is the combination closest to my heart. There was a fling with blue and yellow (and my everyday dishes are Everyday Doulton blue and yellow) and then there's the ongoing flirtation with red transfer ware - but blue and white will always be my favourite!
ReplyDeleteBlue and white always catches my attention...
ReplyDeleteI've collected a fair share of different patterns in the combination. I enjoy the transferware...
I love blue and white, but believe it or not I only have it in one bedroom. I'm planning to change that and use it as an inspiration in my den. As for a color that I always come back to, I discovered this year that it's yellow. Pink is my favorite color, but from the time I was little, I always chose a yellow room and still gravitate to it for decorating.
ReplyDeleteYour blue and white collection is very pretty..
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend xxx
I quite like blue...and had a 'blue' house once upon a time. But my current colour scheme (earth tones) doesn't really work with blue. I've never had blue and white dishes. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI'm also a blue and white person. Though now I reckon I am becoming a green lover - so it's easy to find a compromise with blueish green or greenish blue !
ReplyDeleteI'm very partial to this combo. Also like that Mediterranean mix of burgundy, blue, green, and ochre. . .
ReplyDeleteGreen has always been my favourite colour from a young girl. I love blue and green together and green, white and pink. I think blue and white totally suits you.
ReplyDeleteOur color tastes sound quite the same, only I don't have a red dining room!
ReplyDeleteBlue and white is what we use on a daily basis but our good dinnerware is in the colours of fall . Your collection of blue and white is lovely! Have a good weekend Lorrie!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, blue and white is a universal favorite!
ReplyDeleteWhen we were first married, I had a bedding set from the The Company Store that combined a Blue Onion motif with blue ticking. So fresh.
I have a mug that exactly matches your teapot. Mine is also from Vietnam, and I got mine from SERRV, which is a worldwide Fair Trade Market for artisans from all over the world. Is that what 10,000 Villages is?
Now, I've been picking up pieces of Blue Willow and other similar patterns when I find them. I have them packed away for the Fall, but I think I will put them out again in January.
Hasn't God given us a glorious rainbow? I never get too much of arranging colors, and my 3 favorites ways to enjoy color are botanicals, fabrics and dishes.
I love blue and white too and have a fair collection, with some valuable pieces of willow pattern. perhaps I’ll have to make a post of them some time. I love china and pottery but we must think of disposing of some of it, all in the process of down-sizing.
ReplyDeleteWell, I’m thinking of it, which doesn’t mean thatI’m actually going to do it any time soon.
The blue and white combination is timeless! And all of those pieces coordinate beautifully. I have a whole collection of blue/grey stoneware pottery that decorates the Jackson Press in our dining room!
