On Finishing Something

There's a lot of wheel spinning without much traction going on here lately. I have ideas. I have projects. I have deadlines. But I'm having a hard time getting going and actually finishing things. Several recent projects have been utter duds, which demotivates me to try anything else. In an effort to get out of this go-no-where morass, I embarked on two simple projects. And I finished them. And I'm pleased with the results.

The first is the patchwork pillow cover seen above. No pattern, little measuring. Just a pile of scraps (and a couple of new fat quarters to inspire me) and this inspiration. Looking at this pillow just makes me happy - birds, sewing notions, bubbles, lots of blues, a bit of lace - some of my favorite things.

Next, two little skirts for two little misses. Bright and summery with pockets for collecting treasures. I used sew-through elastic which made them come together in no time flat. Now to find t-shirts to match.

You might also note that I've changed my profile picture. The snowy days have been long gone from here. This one is rather windblown, but it will do for now. There we have it, two (or three) finished projects. It feels good. Now, if I can only keep going. Tell me, do you have periods of time where you feel like the wheels are spinning without any traction?

It is time to move outside though! and we have some projects that we hope to accomplish out there this year. Off for my walk now though,,,,must get motivated in that department as well! Jeesh! have a great day Lorrie.

  3. Funny you should mention wheels spinning with no traction. I couldn't find the words to describe yesterday but that pretty much sums it up!
    What sweet projects you completed!

  4. The pillow and the skirts are all so pretty, Lorrie. I haven't tried to accomplish much here. I'd like to put some nails in the wall for certain shelves but I'm out of wall space or I'll have to redecorate the family room to accomplish that. It's frustrating as we can't put screws in the outside walls of room as they might go through the vapour barrier and hubby has said no to that. :( I am redecorating in my mind but have no energy to actually try to accomplish something. My wheels are spinning! I like your new profile picture. It's sunny and almost zero today after a foot of fresh snow fell last night! I could almost sit on the deck if there was not 2 feet of snow on it. lol

My wheels spin wildly in my head, and that's it.

  6. My wheels are also spinning with so many projects and I want them all done before the end of April. I need 36 hours in a day to do them! I love your patchwork cushion, I should have attempted a style like this as my first project in patchwork instead of what I am doing now :-) xx

  10. Yes, and I am sitting on three projects right now hoping to turn them from a bit of a disaster to a good thing. It could go either way. Your pillow came out beautifully!

  13. What sweet little skirts and love the pillow too.
Sometimes we need a simple project to see quick result
before attempting the more challenging project.
    Take care!

  18. Those skirts are adorable Lorrie. And you thought of the pockets is clever, as little people love picking up and collecting.

  19. Love! that pillow! Love it! Do you sell those on Etsy? You make me wish for a month to open up magically somewhere, so that I could disappear back into sewing -- it's been far too long. Not that I'd be able to accomplish what you have, but you do inspire. . .
