Creamy White

The Pacific Dogwood is British Columbia's provincial flower. It blooms in April and May and is at its peak just now here. I love the creamy blossoms against the green cedars and firs.

When I was growing up much farther north, I knew that the Dogwood was our floral emblem, but there were none in our area and I don't recall ever seeing one until I was at least a teenager. So now, I revel in the beauty of dogwoods that bloom for just a short time.

  1. Oh I love these too. But they're not so common in our area, and they wouldn't be happy in the soil we have here... I tried the groundcover version from the same family, with similar miniature flowers but they didn't make it. Such a pity !

  2. They are lovely. I remember walking in woods in Maryland (where we lived at the time) and seeing dogwoods for the first time. In my childhood memory, they weren't quite the same as your Pacific ones. Am I right?

  3. Beautiful! We have the small relation, the Cornus, in our garden, with smaller but equally pretty flowers.

  5. Good Morning Lorrie,

I love dogwoods too--especially the religious symbol surrounding the tree. I think mine isn't going to make it much longer. The woodpeckers have literally destroyed it! We tried pruning it last year and only a portion of the tree sprouted back leaves and bloomed this year. I am going to cry if we have to cut it down!!

Thanks for sharing with us today!

  6. I love the Dogwood - there are two here, but I long for a pink one. Just have to find a place to plant it!
