Bits and Pieces

Waterfront properties are valuable pieces of investment. I think that if I lived in a house such as the one above, I'd have a hard time getting things done. My preferred activity might be sitting beside one of those windows staring at the water.

Would you like to have your own private island? This small one, not too far from town, is for sale - complete with a "needs updating" home - for a cool half million or so.

Moody blues and greys are the colors of the day lately. Beautiful, serene, and sculptural.

Here and there, however, patches of bright wildflowers still bloom, unmindful of the calendar.

Another bright spot over the weekend - taking the time to make a full breakfast for the two of us and chatting over a cup or two of tea or coffee.

What's brightening your days?

  1. I wouldn't blame you for sitting at the window and just looking at the water. It has something so peaceful to it. The little island is perfect in every way. I think I would just buy it if I could and leave it to nature and be happy with it. Being creative brightens my day and my children are the sunshine of every day of my life.
    Wishing you a lovely day.

  2. There...hope that works. Oh my! Beautiful island I am sure and that house is a real fixer-upper. Yes, I'd be in trouble living there as well. I already am just watching squirrels! Cozy breakfast for two...it is giving me ideas.

  3. I love your snippets of life today! Beautiful views, and I recognize that teacup of yours with the script on it--you featured that on a blog post one time.

  4. Oh, the needs updating does require a bit of work doesn't it?

Do you have those yummy looking bacon cups on your recipe blog?

    Have a wonderful week.

  6. Hi Lorrie,

YOUR snippets of the season, both outdoors and in, have provided bright and beautiful bit and pieces for this very grey, dark and rainy Toronto day! Thank you!

  8. Our first good snow covering is making me happy here!
Yes, I would probably be sitting by the window soaking up the beauty before me.

  9. That house is a gorgeous and I imagine the views are incredible! Imagine owning an island and building a home on it! It would be so expensive to get the building products over and to build it. I suppose there are those that can afford it if they wish. Pretty late flower blooms. I am curious how you made the egg in the cup with ham or back bacon in a 'bowl' for it. It looks quite delicious.

I would say that the second house is a bit of a fixer-upper! Your breakfast looks absolutely delicious! Thank you for sharing with us!

  11. It could be a lot of fun owning an island...
I've had dinner already and I'm thinking a full English breakfast would be a nice treat. Glad you could enjoy it with just the two of you!

  12. Nothing like a fixer upper on an island! My husband has always wanted to live on the water Lorrie but waterfront is expensive to buy and on our lake, the taxes are phenomenal.
I pulled out the winter decor today - that really brightened things up around here with special candles and my icicle lights in the kitchen window facing the backyard. A few of the things are Christmasy but mostly snowmen, snowflakes and lots of cardinals that can stay out until spring.

  13. We normally don't eat such fancy breakfasts - more yogurt, oatmeal, or toast and marmalade - yours looks yummy!
Off to the mountains tomorrow - that makes me happy, as long as the rains stay away and I can see the scenery!

  14. I've always said that if I lived on the ocean I would buy the biggest fanciest camera - put it on a tripod in the window and sit there all day. When not taking pictures I'd just be daydreaming looking out the window - and I'm sure I'd never get anything done.

I love that little island house - poor thing has been so neglected - just think of the stories it could tell.

Your breakfast looks and sounds wonderful.

  15. Oh - and have you gotten blown away yet? Winds are up to 50 mph down here and they are predicting perhaps a little snow tonight - Don said it was really cold when he was coming home tonight.

  17. I am with you. I wouldn't get a thing done if I had a house overlooking the water. Good thing I don't have the money to buy an island--LOL. Looking at your breakfast brightened my day...made me very hungry too:)

  18. Loved the Lotus flowers from previous post. I would love a waterfront home and I am thinking a million might not be out of my range though. The breakfast looks charming. What brightens my days...knowing I will see my daughter and her husby next week for first time since first of April, and soon the whole family shall gather. Happy weekend~

  19. Lovely photos...I love weekend breakfasts with my hb too. And if I lived so close to the waterfront I too would be staring out at it all day! Thank you for your kind comment on my blog....yes, those are 4 inch squares.
    Happy weekend, Lorrie.

  21. What a beautiful home. I would be by the window too. An island of my own would be lovely, but I think I would get to lonely. The breakfast looks delicious!

  23. That's quite the house by the lake. Now the one on the island does need a "tad" bit of work. - Mmmmm that breakfast looked yummy.

  24. What a beautiful and fun post, Lorrie! Oh yes, I'd love to have my own private island...
The happy, bright flowers in your photo have brightened my day (are they wild flowers?!) and your breakfast looks lovely. I'm looking forward to a possible post about your home-made marshmallows. :)
    Have a beautiful weekend!

  25. Sun. I always love your water photos because we don't have a body of water nearby, not unless you count our water feature. Your water photos are always so classic and gorgeous. Sunshine on a cold day makes me happy.
