October Daily 29: Sunshine in the Garden

After days of grey clouds and drizzle, the sun broke through this afternoon, illuminating the garden in lovely golden light. I dashed out with my camera to snap a few photos.

Lilacs are not known for their autumn foliage, but I've been admiring the russet shades from my kitchen window. This close up highlights the rich colour and curving veins of lilac leaves.

One more dahlia blossom is slowly, ever so slowly, opening. It's a dinner plate variety, and I don't know the name, but I'm watching it carefully.

A volunteer cherry tomato vine grew up behind the zinnias and cosmos and it's still producing tiny fruits. Garden clean up will soon put an end to that, but they will stay for a few more days.

Hydrangeas remain full of colour - mostly the pink and purple shades, but a few later blooms display summer tints of blue.

Inside there's been lots of wonderful visiting with my parents, along with putting a puzzle together. This evening they are having dinner with our eldest daughter and her family.

We don't have a lot planned for tomorrow other than going out for dinner in the evening, but it's lovely just being together. More sun is in the forecast. Hooray!

Beautiful photos, the dahlia looks like a children story waiting to be told.

It's wonderful getting together, isn't it?
You've had so much weather in the last while. The sun is welcome here, as more rain today. You know how that is!

you still have lots of colour in your garden. Pretty! I just picked the last of our tomatoes. Sad to see the end of them for another year. They are so flavourful compared to the store bought ones.

I took a few moments this morning to catch up here at Fabric Paper Thread. How lovely to see October through your eyes! Sweet little Iris in her rain gear, a long-awaited visit from your parents, treats, the gorgeous colors of the tree-lined street in front of the nursing home . . . all have brought delight as I read!

I'm also enjoying the wonderful sunshine. It went down to 2* overnight but now, at 11 o'clock, it is already 10 !!
I'm baking muffins this morning and planning on being outside after lunch.

I bet there has been non stop chatting:) love the look of that jigsaw. I’m on the look out for a new one. It’s a lovely occupation on a cold rainy day. Those lilac leaves are beautiful. Ours are nowhere near as colourful. Tomatoes hanging on here too. Just. B x

Lovely colors on those lilac leaves. Ours don't change color like that at all. Hope the dahlia opens up. My one Hydrangea bloom is faded but still has some color, just not as pretty as yours. Enjoy your sunshine. It's nice out here today but was oh so cold in the morning.
